There's the episodic "Monster of the Week" episodes, and there's the serialized mythology episodes. The mythology episodes are the ones that deal with the alien conspiracy stuff. Also, just a reminder, there are two movies. The first one takes place between seasons 5 and 6, and the other takes place between seasons 9 and 10.
