Not sure about 30 Rock but that happens on Brooklyn Nine-Nine when Jake and Charles are pretending to hear the police equipment that blasts a tone at under 35s, which only Rosa actually hears. I'm 36 and can still hear the tone when passing gardens which have it installed.

2025-03-18 10:45:01 +0000 UTCI've heard of the tone that us older folks can no longer register. I couldn't hear the morse code from the Machine... but I didn't try it with headphones. And I remember a tv show episode, it may have been on 30 Rock, where younger characters were cringing from a high frequency tone that an older character does not react to... but then pretends to after being told about it, to maintain an unconvincing youthful illusion.

And some great lines from Shaw... like "Scold him later, Root" and "It's hammer time"... lol. Awww, Shaw was worried about Root. Amy Acker was just incredible here. I mean, she always is... but this was another level. I always say... she shined as Fred in Angel... but Root - Root eclipses all else. Role of a lifetime.

2025-03-17 22:29:53 +0000 UTCThe Machine getting the footage of Diane was a much needed sweet moment. All of the chaos at the bank was a lot of fun, or at least more fun than Root getting tortured and Fusco dealing with Reese's depression (though both were still great stories. )

This is what the Machine was saying: Control: "You say the machine looks out for you? Then why are you in this cell, why has it let this happen? This friend that you love so much? It's abandoned you.." Machine: SORRY. Machine (During dialog): INCREASED PERSPIRATION. HEART RATE AND BREATHING ELEVATED. INDICATIVE OF FEAR. Root: "She's been telling me about you... You're scared of me." 2 OCLOCK. 2007 ANTERIOR CRUCIATE LIGAMENT TORN. SURGICAL REPAIR PARTIAL SUCCESS. 2010 PHYSICAL THERAPY DISCONTINUED AGAINST DOCTORS ADVICE. Root: "All these guards watching... by the way, that one has a bum knee." And right as she jumps on Control: 8 OCLOCK.
