Person of Interest 3x11 "Lethe" Full Reaction

Comments

This episode is so good with hindsight. Watching how masterfully Control, well, controls everyone around her from the moment she walks into the hospital.

When Shaw said that, I thought the wife would call the Secret Service agents to come and help and the bad guys would find them that way. Didn't realise the twist until Harold's line about 'corrupted files'. I love it when I realise the twist only seconds before it's revealed - the chills of imminence are amazing. Also glad that for once on this show I managed not to instinctively read the comments before watching the video. I love how it's shown that Finch's evolution as a hacker and tech expert were also based on wanting to provide for the world without having to sacrifice providing for his dad. The Angel quote is classic existentialism, which overall is my favourite philosophy. We are our own kind of machine, with the power to shape what matters. The Machine reads Samaritan as going from deactivated to unknown, which suggests to me that it actually was deactivated and that that has only now changed. If the Machine doesn't know its status, that suggests that it's somewhere in between deactivated and active - perhaps someone has taken it offline in order to activate it later?

Camryn Manheim played that so well. What a way to bring in Control. It's great storytelling when you don't suspect anything until it's too late... just like the characters. And seeing Harold's greatest influence was what was happening to his Dad... was enlightening and heartbreaking. Can't wait for part 2 of this!

For me this is one of the best twists in the show partly because I fell for it hook, line and sinker. Literally used dementia to tug at your heart and make you feel bad for his "wife" so when he very vividly remembers his wife, how he buried her and the specific date, I had chills!

Inseriousity

I thought of the Angel quote too with John's jaded take. We've gone from Carters death to "there's another machine" seamlessly. Though, the show has done the bait and switch of characters enough previously that when Shaw said the only people she trusts were in the room I was side eying the wife, though her exact real identity didn't come to mind. I love Arthur, his history with Finch and of course the singing. The flashbacks... it seems Finch making the machine was evolution of a little boy wanting to help his dad with his memory; very sweet. John and Lionel's scenes were very well done too. It makes sense John wasn't going to be business as usual, we saw what happened after Jessica. We learned that Lionel is 2yrs sober which tells us Lionel has cleaned up his act even more than we knew. Not only was this not a chill episode the high key stakes is why I love this season so much. This run of episode banger episodes is some of the best TV I've seen.
