I don't know how anyone else feels... but I think this was handled as sensitively as possible in a 42 minute side-story of the week. Not just for a surprise twist. Especially considering it was 20 years ago when this was not a topic you'd see, or see as positively overall. (Obviously not a trans actor, but again it was 20 years ago.) Julia was portrayed in a loving relationship, and Veronica emphasized the heart of the matter being her love for Justin, and that he was lucky to have this opportunity now. Justin's shock was understandable... but he was reaching out in the end. Effectively done without being soapbox-y or mocking.
