Dean couldn't survive without Sam, you're right. But for Sam to smack Dean in the face with basically saying is that Dean doesn't matter to him as much. Remember, Dean tried "everything" to get Sam out of Hell (S6E1), but Sam didn't even look for Dean after S7. Sam's right in that they didn't gain anything, in fact lost Kevin, but that's not on Dean completely. IMO it's mostly on Metatron and some on Gadreel for letting himself be manipulated by Metatron. How was Dean to know Gadreel was lying?

2024-10-04 05:44:51 +0000 UTCThe thing is Sam is NOT saying, "I wouldn't save you if you were dying" or "I wouldn’t go to extremes to save you," but I agree with you, Liam. Dean basically just hears, "I don’t love you." But what Sam says is under the "same circumstances" I wouldn't do the same. Dean put an angel in Sam, even knowing he would never agree, violating his trust, and body and mind to save him. Sam also didn’t want others to die or be hurt by some sort of deal being done to save him , and Kevin ended up dying because of the deal Dean made with "Zeke". So, Sam is NOT saying he wouldn’t try very hard to save Dean, he’s saying he would respect Dean's sacrifice and/or would not take away his autonomy just to keep Dean with him. I don’t think Dean, being who he is, could have made a different choice about Sam after hearing that Sam wanted Death to make sure nothing could bring him back once he died. But, I do think he made the choice to save Sam primarily for himself. He needs Sam. The first time I watched the show, I hated the season 9 conflict, but now that I know how it ends, I think the conflict was needed, and this was not a small matter and should take more than a couple of episodes to resolve. I do think Sam was rubbing it in a little at the start of the episode. Twisting the knife when he was like, "oh, I’m just checking to see if you’re okay after I told you we aren’t brothers." But, I don’t think he was trying to be harsh at the conversation at the end, rather he was trying to show Dean how seriously he takes respecting each other’s choices and how much it hurt him for Dean to do what he did.
