Jimmy's stance on having Jess stay doesn't make sense if we look at it from our own perspective, it only makes sense if we look at it from Jimmy's perspective. He has always felt guilty for leaving. Probably even more so once he started dating someone who has a kid. So he went to Connecticut because he needed to know, once and for all, "Did I do the right thing?" He goes there and Luke tells him in no uncertain terms that Jess is "screwed up" because of Jimmy leaving. Then Luke basically tells him "Get the heck out of here before you screw him up even more!" So Jimmy gets the message loud and clear. He didn't do the right thing back then and he'll just make things worse if he tries to be in Jess' life now. And Luke also threatened Jimmy's life if he kept coming around, so there's that. Yes, Jess has "nowhere to go", but he's 18, and Jess even says to Jimmy "I can vote, I can be drafted..." So Jimmy's probably honestly hoping, at least subconsciously, that if he refuses to help Jess, Jess will either go back to Luke's in Stars Hollow and figure things out there, or do something else like join the army, which honestly might be good for him, or go back to live with his mom until he gets on his feet with a job and stuff. Either way, he knows Jess won't be homeless, and has options. Jimmy doesn't view himself as a viable option. And considering he seems to view Sasha's daughter as nothing more than a tolerable accessory that comes with dating Sasha... I have to say, I think he made the right choice by saying no. 🤷🏻

Speaking as a British person, nowhere in our country is more than 8 hours away from the middle, so the idea of travelling across America is like going through several universes in a row. Imagining it makes me feel like the 700 hyperjumps scene in Guardians of the Galaxy 2. The 'Audrey Hepburn in Sabrina' line is a reference to a movie from 1954, not the 90s or 2010s shows about the teenage witch. Alex Borstein (Lois from Family Guy), who you recognised as playing the angry harpist in the pilot, played Miss Celine in this episode (and the screaming voice of the ex-wife on the answering machine of the guy who got Lorelai and Rory to water his garden).

I've driven from New Hampshire (which is a bit further east than Connecticut) to Las Vegas (which is not as far as getting all the way to California, but very close!) And we did it with 2 cars, 3 kids, 2 dogs, and 2 cats... and I still wouldn't want to do it by bus! 🤣
