I'm not sure where the idea that Dean and Lindsay have only been dating for "weeks" came from. The hockey game was presumably winter and they had been dating long enough by then that Lindsay seemed to think Rory would have known they were dating because she looked like she was expecting Rory to freak out on her π In this episode, we are far enough into spring that we are talking proms and impending graduation, so that's definitely more than a few weeks. All Rory said was "You haven't been dating that long" and Rory dated Dean for a couple years, so it makes sense that she would consider several months to be a short time comparatively, especially when she herself wasn't even thinking about marriage after two years. But everyone is different π€·π» and Dean has always been marriage-minded, we see that from him as far back as "That Damn Donna Reed" so I wasn't that surprised when he said he was engaged. Plus, I am born in 1984 (the same year as Rory) and my friends were often getting engaged on a whim when they hadn't been dating that long when we were teens. I had at least three engaged couples in my friend group (though none of those ones stayed together) and one other friend who got married when she was eighteen and though they did hit a rough patch and divorce for a short time at one point, they reunited and are still happily married to this day. I also knew someone who I met when we were both sixteen and she had moved across the country to get away from her abusive fiance who she had gotten engaged to at 14. They had been living together in a house he inherited and running their own DJ business together. So when I met her, at 16, she had the life experiences of a middle aged woman and had a very hard time relating to most people our age with their highschooler "Gee, does he like me?" mentalities π

2024-03-18 04:30:49 +0000 UTCMaybe it's me but I never saw Lorelai and Sookie's behaviour at the funeral as anything worse than charmingly, life-affirmingly tacky. Not something I'd have done but something that reflects their heartfelt, desperate desire to run the inn, and not to allow themselves to be beaten to the punch because they weren't tacky enough. For me the worst part is Lorelai walking at the front. That just seems obviously a rude place to stand, impractical for lifting, and I don't blame Kirk for complaining that they were obstructing Fran's view. Maybe I'm just used to inappropriate behaviour at and around funerals from watching Six Feet Under. One clue that the quote isn't from the Bible is that it's in iambic pentameter: Let nei/ther day/nor night/unhall/owed pass ; but still/remem/ber what/the Lord/hath done. I imagine that Dean's proposal conversation to Lindsey started off as a conversation about why he started a fight with Jess about Rory, and the topic progressed from there.
