Ultimately, I did realise he was saving it for Alaric 😭 and now I can’t get out my head he was actually there but ofc Damon wouldn’t have noticed

My Delaric heart 😭😭😭😭 Liam did u notice Damon kept saying the seat is taken, he meant that seat is Ric's his drinking buddy his bestie and he didn't allow anyone to sit there not even Elena now that's friendship that's brotherhood and the last scene that just totally breaks me each and every time I watch it Damon's speech to Ric's grave and then ric apprearing listening to Damon talk to him and he says I miss you too buddy that's the end of me right there and with Damon i don't know stuff like this is more emotional be it with Elena, Stefan or now Alaric when Damon gets emotional we all do it just somehow happens 😭☹️🥺💔

Not to detract from the beauty of the scenes, just a PSA to *not* release lanterns into the sky. Just like balloons, it is very harmful to wildlife and the environment. While the paper does biodegrade -- eventually -- the wiring harms, traps, and strangles wildlife. Alternatives would be flying a kite (and bringing it back down), candles in glass jars to burn for someone, etc.

There are several things in this episode that really struck me in terms of character arc and how much this strange little group of supernaturals and humans support each other now. Stefan able to comfort Bonnie (who saw that ever happening while watching the first season?). Matt reading the situation and stepping up in a big way to keep the cover of all the vampires. And Tyler...he who has grown *so* much from the Season 1 D-bag he once portrayed. Knowing that they had a target/trap on them all, knowing he was the only one who had as yet been discovered by the hunter, and knowing that he was the only one of them who couldn't be killed by the bullets...he stepped up to the lectern and made himself the target to spring the trap and draw out the hunter. VIP right there.
It also is so satisfying to see Caroline helping teach Elena how to transition as a compassionate vampire and use her emotions to care and help instead of kill. It's extra satisfying because Caroline was the one they said (I think Damon said it, in fact) would *never* make it as a vampire. Yet she seems the emotionally strongest and most stable of them all, LOL.
