Gabrielle: "You owe someone so much that you would just throw away these last few years *with me*?" Xena: "Yes." Imagine the pain she felt at the realization that Xena didn't want to be with her anymore. The level of rejection and abandonment. Xena was leaving her. You gotta see it from her point of view. Yeah, it was selfish. But doesn't she have a right to be selfish for once. She's constantly giving Xena unconditional and unselfish love. Accepting everything she's ever done, including recently while travelling with her. This was the final test of the strength of her love. And it came down to loving her so much, she didn't wanna let her go. Her will was to prevent her from assassinating Ming Tien because she was jealous of Xena's relationship with Lao Ma and she thinks Xena's going back to her again. At the time, neither one of them knew she was dead. So Gabrielle was like "I'm not just about to let my wife hook up with some old flame that taught her how to fly".

All he did was replace his name with Xena’s and genderbend while reading it back to Gabrielle. So the events and intimate relations he was narrating were all true but the part about it being Joxer that all these events and intimate relations happened with was not.

Realizes ON HIS OWN (as in - without being told anything or called out) that he is wrong for it. That is positive CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT. Take note, Willow. It also checks out that he didn’t cause her to lose her memories. That happens because Gabrielle chooses to erase her memories and going to a temple to do it. He helps her to get her memories back which is only something Gabrielle can do by herself in her head.

2023-11-14 15:12:42 +0000 UTCYeah i was very unhappy with that element too myself as it diminished the understandable reasons for Gabrielle interceding in Chin and made her seem in effect very petty- which really has never been a characteristic i've associated with Gabby. I also feel that having Gabrielle walk through yet another challenge like this after all she's been through this season was more than enough. I feel Xena got off a lot more lightly in retrospect for her action this season- after all she tried to KILL Gabrielle. I feel she should have gone through a lot more for that.

That being said, I did not like the plot point that Gabrielle betrayed Xena in Chin out of jealousy. It is out of character, not what the writers of The Debt intended and wasn't needed. They did it because they conceded to fans who were still mad at Gabrielle for the rift.

I think the teleportation effect for “Ares” was different than that of the real Ares, a nice clue. ... This a pretty deep and significant episode concerning it’s clip show status. ... I really like that we got an answer for everyone who wondered how Gabby got to Chin so fast.
