The great thing about this is Xena’s “way” wasn’t even stable until Gabrielle came into her life so in actuality Gabrielle is Xena’s “way”. And she even says that herself in “A Family Affair”. Confesses to Gabrielle that she doesn’t really have a “way” to find as such because her “way” is a living breathing human right beside her. I go into this with much more depth in my character study.

Hahaha. In a way, I'm glad Gabrielle presumably stashed Ephiny's family staff with the eagle head away somewhere safe and instead opted to fight with a generic staff (which has since been broken and replaced multiple times). Imagine if she had thrown such a meaningful gift into the river like that. XD

Also, so happy to hear two Xena episodes a week is back on the menu! :D
If you aren't already planning to, do consider reaction to the final few episodes this season in the order 19 > 22 > 20 > 21. This order is much better for reactors and watching it out of broadcast order will not spoil anything.

I love Gabrielle's staff and her fighting style with it as well! Her choreography with it is always so on point, and almost always performed by Renee O'Connor herself as well. I know a blunt weapon like a staff can easily kill in real life, but in the Xenaverse, it is strictly a non-lethal weapon which has allowed Gabrielle to fight for over 3 seasons now without killing. In fact, Meridian (Dahak's priestess who tricked Gabrielle into killing her) is her only human kill across 84 episodes, something Gabrielle continues to regret and feel guilty about.
While I would only classify this episode as decent, not outstanding, it is undeniably one of the most important ones of the series. Xena gets confirmation, from a god no less, that her being a warrior is the right way for her and can indeed lead to karmically good things.

I love this episode, and I'm so glad you liked it too, Liam. I found it really interesting that you were familiar with Hinduism, and knew who Hanuman was. Very cool. Also, I have always loved the name Hanuman. I just love the way it sounds.
