“One can’t exist without the other” Yeah, you got it. They’re yin and yang. Not just the concept. The literal human embodiment of yin-yang itself. They’re not just soulmates in that they’re each other’s half to a whole. They’re one soul in two bodies but meant to be one whole. Remember Gabrielle’s (Plato) soulmate story from ‘Prometheus’. You really thought they were talking about Hercules and Iolas? No, they weren’t. She was narrating her and Xena’s connection and didn’t even know it.

2023-11-22 17:56:43 +0000 UTCOne parallel I’ve noticed from ‘Sins Of The Past’ and ‘Between The Lines’ is that instead of Xena being distracted and stuck to the ground by Gabrielle’s failed attempt to fight back and protect herself, Gabrielle (Shakti) is now the one being distracted and struck to the ground by Xena’s (Arminestra) interrupted attempt to kill. It’s almost a shot-for-shot parallel to show that they’re rediscovering their soulmate connection all over again. I wonder if it was intended. 🤔 Another thing to ask Steven L. Sears about. What their reincarnated lives and karmic cycle show us is that even before Xena and Gabrielle knew each other in this lifetime, they were already together in the past life before that just as they will also be in their next life as Aminestra and Shakti. That’s what Naima meant by what she told them. That they have been, are and will be connected by their very soul. No beginning and no end. It’s extremely profound. You know… if you believe in that sort of thing. I always have. In no small part thanks to this episode I’m sure.

Even if it wouldn’t always be in a romantic sense. Like that is ever more important than the former. It isn’t. They are each other’s person fulfilling specific relationship roles for each other time and time again. That to me is a much stronger statement of love and commitment and intimacy than anything romantic. That being said… Gabby this whole episode must have been like: *You know you look great in that outfit. But you'd look even greater out of it.*

Not only was it an emotionally intense and action packed one, it was so important for Xena and Gabrielle's characters. Xena needed to see that, even while her current warrior path often draws from her inner darkness, it ultimately leads to a good place still consistent with being the 'Mother of Peace'. And for Gabrielle, Shakti called himself a 'man of peace' while being a warrior leader, giving her the insight that being a warrior for good doesn't necessarily contradict her peaceful ideals despite the innate violence in that path. And, of course, it also reiterated what we already know and have ample evidence for: Xena and Gabrielle are soulmates and meant to be together in this life or the next.
