Season 3 is one hell of a whirlwind alright.

She seems to be the only “full mortal” that can sense him when he is around and he isn’t showing himself. How can she do it?

A character in the show once made the comment that Xena isn’t a natural human being and it got me thinking and wondering for a long time that maybe she wasn’t. It’s clear Xena has abilities no other human has, and many of them, I might add. As her catchphrase goes… The Warrior Princess has “many skills”. Many formidable skills. She’s a strategic thinker who seems to always be three steps ahead of everybody else when it comes to planning strategy to defeat her enemies or accomplish whatever task she needs to for the ‘Greater Good’. She is so adept in this that even when circumstances change abruptly, she always knows what to do next. It’s as if she had all the steps to solution figured out before it even happened. Is this conceivable for a mere mortal to be able to do to the level she can? Or is she gifted with some type of super-consciousness whereby she can be aware of something happening before it does happen? Maybe an inherited supernatural power from a god? Hmm… The character Mavican in the Season 5 episode, ‘Succession’, brought up that Xena always seems to know when danger is approaching and she’s about to be attacked well before it happens. It’s like how Gabrielle has clairvoyant ability where she can see the future, see spirits, and tell prophecies. Now, I believe in psychic ability because I am claircognizant, which means I’m able to know something without knowing how or why I know it. So, obviously, I’m well aware that you can know something before you’re meant to know it. Xena has that same ability but to a degree that shouldn’t be capable for any human being at all to have. At least not in Ancient times when humanity’s destiny was decreed by the gods and the Fates, although she herself never believed that her fate was in anybody’s hands but her own. Xena also seems to have a controlled sense-of-self that allows her to be able to fight off supernatural powers, and in some cases, she’s completely immune to them. This is especially true when it comes to Ares, the god of war. Xena puts Ares on his toes when she fights him. He always has to work that much harder to win in a fight with Xena than with any other mortal. She often figures out his plans before anyone else does. She can also sense when he is around when no one else can. And she’s the only one who can defeat him in battle as a mortal besides Hercules… who is of course… a Demi-God. Could she be a Demi-God too? Could all this supernatural ability Xena seems to have be because Ares’ immortal blood runs through her? Could the god of war really be her father? We do have to consider how many times she has one-upped Ares in the show, as well as the fact he is proud of her ability to prevent him from succeeding. Why?! This would absolutely anger him if this was anyone else! Going back to the episode, ‘Succession’… Ares setup this Universe that is very much like ‘The Hunger Games’, and Xena and Gabrielle are merged into the same body and forced to battle Mavican for Ares’ mantle. Mavican ended up asking Ares for help but instead he just left her there because no one receives help from the god of war. But Xena always gets help from him just like how Zeus always helps out Hercules because he is his son. Perhaps the producers/writers were just having a field day with the theory of it because there is subtext all the way through the show hinting not only that Xena is a Demi-God, but also that she is the daughter of the god of war. If we take the information presented to us in a couple of episodes, we’ll begin to see that there is overwhelming logic to believe that she is. So much so, it could hold a strong case in the court of law even without empirical evidence. In the Season 1 episode, ‘Ties That Bind’, Ares takes the form of Xena’s father, Atrius, and fashions this whole manipulative scheme to try to bring Xena back to the dark side and fight for him as the commander of his army. Xena knows that her father abandoned her and her mother when she was just a young girl, so she’s not easily convinced when this stranger shows up in her life and claims that he is her father and that he wants to be a part of her life again. Ares uses all the information Xena tells Atrius and Gabrielle to his advantage and eventually does convince her that he was indeed her father. When she finds out Atrius is Ares, he states that the reason why he could play the role of her father so well is because a father is someone who guides their children and teaches them how to live their lives. He implicitly stated that he, as the god of war, actually was her father. And watching that, I just couldn’t shake off the feeling that maybe there’s more truth to that than the show gives us. In the Season 3 episode, ‘The Furies’, Xena devises a plan to gain her sanity back while being a raving lunatic. Again, no possible feat for a 100% mortal human being. To get out of killing her mother, she claims that Ares is her real father, which thereby would mean she would not have to avenge her father’s murder because… as she put it… her “father is very much alive” because he is Ares. And she tricks the Furies into believing that to get her out of the mess Ares put her in. Although that might have just been something made up, I can’t help thinking that it may actually be true because there is very relevant reasoning to think that it is. Furthermore, Gabrielle tells us that a legend says that Ares visits the wives of his warriors while they’re at war. Well, I looked that up, and there actually is a legend where the Olympian pantheon had sex with mortals to carry on their species. And it’s not just with Ares either. Zeus did it frequently and Hera hated him for it. This is confirmed in the show ‘Hercules: The Legendary Journeys’. And as we know… it’s all the same Universe. I have to point out that some say that maybe she is a Demi-God but that she’s not the daughter of Ares because that would be incest. It isn’t a problem to me that it would be because the Olympian gods literally invented incest, so it would make so much sense. For me, that would be all the more reason it would be Ares instead of some other god. I’m absolutely convinced after all the research I’ve done on it that Xena is Ares’ half mortal/half god child. The implications are too strong not to. So, I ask you, now that you’ve read this post, do you think this theory could be true too? Consider all points made, as well as the statements in this episode reaction, and any other information, in both ‘Xena: Warrior Princess’ and ‘Hercules: The Legendary Journeys’, that you believe could prove or disprove this theory. 2023-11-10 08:52:55 +0000 UTCI think it makes more sense if Ares really is Xena's father. Look at some of the things she's capable of. She practically flew onto Cecrops' ship last season and she has fought Hercules to a standstill. Those things only make sense if Xena is half-god.

2022-09-20 14:52:36 +0000 UTCI feel this episode comes together pretty well, even if the moments of dark fits of madness clash awkwardly (to me) with the wacky Three Stooges bits. It’s a nice set of reveals for a season premiere.
