The WB announced that James Marsters was going to be on Angel the day before Buffy 7x21 aired, so not only did first-run viewers know that Spike was going to come back, we didn't even get the full emotional impact of Spike dusting in Buffy 7x22. So glad that reactors get to see the final Buffy episodes the way they were intended. While you're watching this again for editing, notice how Wesley is only shown from his right side - Alexis Denisof came down with bell's palsy and the left side of his face basically froze for a time, so Joss took great pains to not show that side. And to answer your question from your intro - Alexis got married to Alyson Hannigan while this season was filming. :)

I'm so glad that you thought Harmony was the big surprise because it's such a great misdirect ssion for people who never knew that James Marsters was going to join Angel well before the last episode of Buffy ended. It made the whole thing very anti-climactic for first run viewers, but given that it was nearly twenty years ago now that it ended, people watching today have no idea unless they researched it already. Just to be clear though, Angel killed that Strike team member at the end and he did not kill himself.
