Something not brought up at the end of this movie is that Balin, the old dwarf, went on to try and retake Moria. The tomb they found in Fellowship and killed the troll in belonged to him.

2021-09-14 01:25:21 +0000 UTCOne of the big things about Smaug is he doesn't really have much time in the book either. Mainly cause it was from Bilbo's POV and we didn't really get to see a destruction until we see Bard come to the mountain and he mostly explains he slayed him and his people made him king. That whole action scene of Thorin, Bilbo & the Dwarves trying to defeat Smaug and in case him in gold was made up on the spot as was the cliffhanger opening, so while it is a bit jarring to start off the movie like that, it's pretty much faithful. But yeah, this was mostly an okay finale, one of the big scenes that were added to the Extended Cut was the death of the slimy guy, Alfird, as in the Theatrical Cut, the last time we see him is him running off with that gold. And the other is the Funeral scene..which I don't know why it was cut. There's a lot more scenes too, but those were just the big ones. Still an okay trilogy of sorts, this was mostly envisoined as just 2 movies, but was heavily stretched into 3 and filled so much with prequel bait, which is mostly alright for some. Just really affects the pacing a lot, least they're still enjoyable, could've been worse without Peter Jackson and his team at the helm. And nice that you got to react to the full Tolkien universe.
