Yeah, it’s kooky and unrealistic but I don’t care. I would have happily watched 10 Xena doppelgängers if it meant I could get more of Lucy’s incredible versatile acting skill. It’s the characterization and themes and messages that’s important. Doesn’t matter about whether it would happen or not. It’s done for the storytelling not to be “realistic”. There’s nothing about this show that’s realistic really,… except maybe Xena and Gabrielle’s relationship but even that’s a hard sell. Nah, the whole point is to tell worthwhile stories of great characters. Don’t get hang up on whether something would be “realistic” or not. Not the point.

If you do good, you are. If you do evil, you are. Simple as that. There’s no solidity or permanence to morality. It just is. Humans are complex flawed beings and nobody’s perfect. I just love that Xena says this when so many other shows (like Buffy) don’t. The whole theology of the show is based on this. That a person can change if they make an effort to. If they genuinely sincerely want to. And if they’ve done good things recently, then you treat them as a good person. If they haven’t, you don’t. That’s how it should be.

2023-11-07 16:54:09 +0000 UTC“Guess which one I am!” Lucy Lawless - Versatility in playing many acting roles. The extremities in which Xena has to go to in the season 2 episode, ‘Warrior… Princess… Tramp’, to prove that she’s the real Xena, and not one of Xena’s look-alikes pretending to be Xena, for me, makes up the comedy to this episode no matter what Gabrielle and Joxer do. Not to mention the remarkable acting skill it takes to play a character that’s not that character, but has to pretend to be that character, and then has to pretend not to be that character, just shows you how versatile of an actress Lucy Lawless really is. I mean she literally has to play a role within a role within a role. It’s like walking through a door that doesn’t seem to have an end to it. Constantly finding another door behind the door you’ve just opened. That’s how remarkable and versatile her acting is. So convincing too. It really is a pity there wasn’t a 4th look-alike episode where Xena, Meg, Diana and Leah were in. I can just imagine the absolute chaos of comedy that would be for Lucy Lawless to take on. But I’m sure she would have rose up to the challenge. For me, she is without a doubt the most versatile actress there is because she absolutely nails any and all genres of acting.

2021-09-06 03:28:50 +0000 UTCThe amazing thing about this show (well, one of them), is the balance between the comedic episodes, and the emotionally heavy ones. Given the upcoming arcs, the reprieve is nice. Lucy/Ted/Renee (Renee makes me laugh so much!) are just SO good with comedy, and they are a natural at it. It's fun to see them play these roles, and my gosh, there are SO many good gems of episodes upcoming!

2021-09-06 03:21:35 +0000 UTCWarrior....Princess was a lot of fun, Warrior....Princess....Tramp is even more fun and one of my favourite comedic episodes yet it's a tribute to how well this series can mix styles that even in the midst of so much humour we can get a genuine character moment with Meg where she describes her unhappy past which is quite moving. Lucy obviously has so much fun playing three roles in one episode and in particular i love the scene where all three "Xenas" make their entrance to the bad guys.
