Xena: Warrior Princess 2x04: Girls Just Wanna Have Fun Reaction

Definitely a very lesbian vampire vibe. I mean consider the lyrics of that song you hear when the Bacchae are dancing with Gabrielle. đŸŽ¶ I want to dance with you. I want you right next to me. I want your soul, and I'll give you what you need from me. Feel the music, sniff your hair. I'll keep you warm against the cold night air. Just one kiss is what you need right now. Just one kiss and I will show you how. Just one kiss is what you need tonight. To go dancing with the devil by the pale moonlight Come on, come on, do it with me now, come on, come on, do it with me now, come on, come on, do it. If you want my love, you got to drink the bloodđŸŽ¶ And yeah, the whole scene with Gabrielle biting Xena
This is Season 2. The gay subtext is very strong in this season. And you’re watching a show with what is probably the most iconic WLW couple in history of TV art/entertainment. Don’t be surprised by it.

Yeah, they’re vampires but they’re ancient vampires and particularly bonded to Bacchus/Dionysus. It’s where the lore came from before the whole Bram Stoker/Count Dracula/Anne Rice lore.

“You almost died trying to save me and I really want to do something to thank you” She says as she’s extremely physically close to Xena and they’re both smiling the gayest smiles ever.

I’m almost certain Gabrielle develops a neck fetish because of this episode with some future hints about giving Xena neck hickies. Maybe part of her remained a Bacchae.

The modern music? What about the propane tank? A famous prop filming error. It shouldn’t have been there at all. Also in ‘The Price’ you see some guy smoking in the background. Sometimes they would do these things on purpose just because they know fans would find it. Sort of like a Where’s Wally game. Find the thing that doesn’t belong in this time-frame.

It’s Xena the Bacchae Slayer. Thought you’d get a kick out of this episode. Gabrielle lesbianning is my favourite. I wonder if this was the point she realized
"Well, shit, I like women. Time to go after Xena."

This episode is literally one big fever dream LOL! I forgot how strange the episode was (a good kind of strange, because it's just so different to what we've seen so far). Joxer is always a fun addition!

You're guaranteed when TJ Scott turns up to direct an episode (he previously directed Callisto last season) the camera will open up way more and there'll be some very stylish, flamboyant and cinematic camerawork. This episode is a riot in every sense with some great humour mixed in (the sight of Argo chowing down on "scarecrow" Orpheus always breaks me up). Some nice make-up on Bacchus too. I love the misdirect of Xena being bitten only for it to be Gabrielle who goes over. And that moment when Gabrielle bites Xena is.....pretty popular with fans ;-) As for that "modern" music you talked about, Xena was always devised as a kind of alternative history adventure so pretty much anything can go in this series as you may find out......

bacchus is actually also dionysus greek demi god of wine and arts etc. so they did take some great liberties since vsmpirism wasn't part of the lore.....but that's where all the random dancing in the streets scene comes from as that's how they would honor him with the frenzy of over drinking the wine etc. I suppose that could also lead to having very loose um inhibitions............which are things campires are known for as well

After that scene in Altered States where they had Xena and Gabrielle making some very overt innuendo and sex noises while innocently swimming, "lesbian vampires" is certainly not an overthink in terms of where the show is willing to go. I personally thought there was a homoerotic element to this episode too just in terms of how the bacchae women were dressed and behaving as well as the pop culture standard of how "vampire" biting/siring is very sexually charged, including and especially those on Buffy. Looks like they also refined Joxer's character a little for this episode, he is very different from his initial persona in Callisto. For the first half of the episode, Joxer is somewhat the protagonist. Though I guess he had to be because they wanted Xena's point of view regarding her neck wound to remain a mystery. With this season, it looks like they made a deliberate push to establish some characters who could potentially recur. With Solan and Borias' mention in the opener, Gareth's mention and unresolved conflict mentioned in The Giant Killer, and Joxer's apparent temporary departure at the end of this episode. Also, was that a cheeky smile I saw when you spoke of a potential "ship" for our two leads? XD

This was actually a Halloween episode, hence the theme. I think it’s full of cool visuals and is a great example of inventive fun. Bacchus looks awesome and I love Bacchae Gabby and Xena (I think Xena gets extra fangs ‘cause she’s the star.) Just-a-Head Orpheus is hilarious and Joxer returns! (Somehow getting roped into this adventure.) I always like this one.
