2021-10-09 23:25:22 +0000 UTCGlad you seemed to enjoy your first dip into Hercules! I'm always a fan of storylines where enemies are forced to work together and I absolutely love the uneasy alliance between Herc and Callisto in this episode. There's some terrific dialogue between them as Callisto tries to strain his moral code and her threat to get to his dead children is truly chilling. It's actually this moral code and not naivety that makes Herc go back and make a rescue attempt for Callisto because taking life or letting anybody die is always a last resort for him. It's interesting to see Callisto interact with a person with those codes and I think she delights in taunting him more than she does Xena for that fact. This episode also proves that despite what some people say about Hercules being a "lighter" show than Xena, there can be moments of great drama and darkness in it too. I wondered if you would recognise the actor who played Iphicles or not. It's good ol' Ares himself, Kevin Smith (sans beard) who does double duty in that role too. Have to say creepy old man Iolaus is very disturbing to look at! lol As you see a very important development for Callisto in this episode and it's always great to see her appear. I love Hudson's portrayal so much and it could be very interesting if she runs across Xena again, couldn't it?......

2021-10-09 23:24:02 +0000 UTCThere are several bits of dialogue between Herc and Callisto that I love, including “C: The world doesn’t deserve you. H: It doesn’t deserve you, either.” and their debate on their wildly varying worldviews and Callisto’s “Goodbye, Hercules” which sounds so different from any way I can imagine her talking to Xena; there’s no hate there. That’s so good. ... Old Iolaus is unpleasant. ... HtLJ is possibly my favorite show of all time, and I was really glad to see this reaction. Happy birthday!
