Xena never considers herself a romantic person but guaranteed the majority of romantic dialogue in the show comes from her. Especially when it’s Gabrielle.

2023-11-07 22:21:45 +0000 UTCWell, at this point Xena was a very popular show on syndication TV. The network probably required them to have at least one festive episode since it was a genre show. And it would be up to the creators to figure out how to do Christmas within an Ancient Greece setting and I think what they came up with was very clever and creative. Obviously Christmas is a Christian holiday and this time-frame was BC so they would have had to use the Winter Solstice instead of Christmas Day. And I think it works really well considering the ‘A Christmas Carol’ idea was mostly about getting a tyrant leader of a community to wise up, so to speak. Involving The Fates rather than the Ghosts of Christmas Past was genius and the whole Senticles=Santa Claus idea might have been a stretch but it was a bit of fun. As for the Hercules action figure. Don’t forget that Salmoneous loves to do merchandising so that’s likely where that came from if Senticles never made it. Cheeky promotion there. All in all, a fun festive episode for all the family to enjoy. We’ve got one more fun lighthearted episode to go until things get serious. I’m so glad Xena has this balance of drama and comedy. It makes it less of a trek to get through the show episode by episode.

GABRIELLE: “I bet we could change it… If we tried. 🥺” XENA: “😘” GABRIELLE: “🥰” XENA: “😍” GABRIELLE: “Please just try it my way just this once. In honour of the Solstice. 🥺” XENA: “😐 Alright. If it means that much to you. 🫠” This whole ‘A Solstice Carol’ episode and shenanigans are just Xena trying to make Gabrielle happy and honouring her wish for no fighting and bloodshed. She just wants her to be happy because that’s a gift to her.

Speaking of Herc, that was indeed a Herc figure Xena was throwing around during the battle and i loved it. This is definitely a very enjoyable well-done festive romp for the show and I always stick it on to watch every Xmas along with other festive episodes of classic shows. And glad to see another member of the Tobias fan club!
