And as for Gabrielle…
She’s beautiful when she’s angry 🤣
I find it very interesting that the thing that’s fuelling her anger most is that Xena has gone off with Ares. Do I detect jealousy in our beloved bard? Put a pin in this perspective for later episodes because it becomes very important. Not just with Ares.

This is the episode that tells you that while Ares may be a villain, he isn’t evil. He isn’t someone that causes war and destruction and pain because he elects to. It’s literally his responsibility to. His job. Because love and war are two sides of the same coin and without each other there, there is no balance in the world. I love that message. So good!

I’m all for enemies-to-lovers but not when the reason why they are enemies is because of what one did to the other. Natural mortal enemies that have to defy their natures to be together I can get with. But not turned mortal enemies. It just doesn’t feel right. The love there just feels forced.
I feel the same way about Buffy and Faith but not with Buffy and Spike.
It only works when the reason why they’re enemies is because it’s instinct. It’s natural. It’s fate.
In this case, Xena killed Callisto’s family and that’s why she’s her enemy. She wouldn’t be otherwise. It would be seriously fucked up if they played homoerotic tension between them in a serious way and not just to be playful.

Hudson is honestly so good in this episode portraying Xena that I forget that it’s not Lucy’s face or body. Every time I recall the scenes, I keep seeing them happen in Lucy’s face or body rather than Hudson’s. She’s that convincing as Xena that I forgot who’s body it is that’s in this episode. I forget that it’s Hudson because all I see is Lucy.

You are correct about people shipping Xena and Callisto. XD But we mostly enjoy Xena and Gabrielle. Also, the scene where Gabrielle does the 'pinch' on the barkeep, cracks me up so much. Makes me laugh every time.

He needed Xena to admit guilt in order to allow Callisto to possess Xena's body because Ares didn't have jurisdiction over the dead. Ares returning Xena's body was just a favor he probably needed the blessing of Hades and other gods which is why it may have taken a little while before it happened.

Lucy Lawless isn't even in the last scene in this episode. The shot where Xena smiles is actually old montage and in the last shot, the person whom Gabrielle hugs is Lucy's stunt double. Even though I enjoy this episode, I kind of wish Xena had gotten her body in the previous episode because it makes a plot hole in the previous episode. If Ares has already the power to switch bodies, why has he needed that Xena to admit her guilt in the first place?

I find Hudson Leick’s Xena very, very appealing. I ALSO enjoy Gabby and Joxer as a duo. I do wish the original actor for Sisyphus, Ray Henwood, was back in the role, but director Charles Siebert filled in and did a great job. (Perhaps it was more of Sisyphus’ trickery at work.)

I too would have loved to have seen Hudson Leick play Xena for a few more episodes but now the truth can be divulged to you- the main reason for this switchover was down to Lucy Lawless breaking her pelvis when she fell from a horse while shooting an appearance for the Jay Leno show. It necessitated a rewrite at the end of the previous episode when Xena was originally supposed to appear back in her own body. But a fun episode came out of this misfortune and this is genuinely enjoyable. Not only for seeing a more mortal Ares but also seeing Gabrielle and Joxer going angrily insane with each other. And once again, Hudson does a great job of portraying Xena.
