Yeah, there was a lot more in that expression on Xena’s face when she saw Gabrielle being wrapped around with whats-his-face. Not quite clear the way she feels just yet… but you can see it happening. She doesn’t think of her as just a kid but she’s still protective regardless and perhaps she hasn’t acknowledged the reasons why just yet if it’s not a maternal/nurturing aspect. It’s fun to look back to see these little subtextual tidbits that make more sense in the larger narrative of them being lovers.
