Buffy the Vampire Slayer 6x10 "Wrecked" Full Reaction

I agree with that. When Rack asks for a "tour" of her, Willow does show some understanding that Rack's involvement will have a sexual component to it and shows some reluctance, but she decides to go through with it anyway.

I'm defining prostitution as any act of a sexual nature performed in exchange for money or goods (in this case magic drugs). I believe the (paraphrased) legal definition where I live is if someone is receiving sexual gratification, in any form, and they are paying or exchanging goods in order to receive said gratification then it is prostitution. The 'sex' act itself doesn't have to be any of the conventional forms necessarily, it's more about the result than how you got someone there (if that makes sense).

Claire Eyles

Agreed on that front. Rack's "tour" of her was certainly portrayed as invasive and sexual. What I mean is, is your interpretation that Willow actually had conventional sex with him or at least performed conventional sexual favours for him in exchange for getting her high? Or do you just mean she was "willing to" but it never goes beyond the mystical version of exchange of energies that had a sensual element?

Judson

I would consider an exchange of energy, where Rack certainly looks like he's getting off in some way to be akin to a sexual act - that combined with the whole 'strawberry' thing & her crying as she showers herself the next day (or whenever she teleported home), yeah I read that as her being willing to swap some form of sexual favour in order to get her high.

Claire Eyles

You mean literally prostituted, like she had sex with Rack? I've never heard that interpretation before.

Judson

Just in case it wasn't blatantly obvious, yes Willow just prostituted herself for a magic high. Rack talking about strawberries & calling her strawberry, the term 'strawberry' is old LA street slang for a prostitute, plus the energy exchange scene has a sexual component to it, and then after with Willow crying in the shower. Unfortunately addiction does kind of interfere with your rational decision making process, to the point that you will do things you wouldn't ordinarily do in order to get access to whatever high you're chasing.

Claire Eyles

Great reaction! It honestly is hard to see the cinnamon bun that is Willow do something like this, but that's addiction in a nut shell. People you love do things you would never expect. And honestly throughout the series thus far we have seen that Willow is terrified of just being "plain". "Restless" depicted it really well and the last episode Amy said something similar to her. Interestingly, Willow also seems to think Tara wouldn't like a "powerless" Willow, which isn't the case but it does show how self-deprecating she can be and how she has never truly accepted that part of herself but used magic as a way of becoming someone she thinks is better. Spuffy this episode.... I'm just going to sigh and say I agree with everything you said about the relationship. I could keep rambling, but I think I'll just end it here with a thank you for the reaction!
