The precise origin of the slang use of "fam" is unknown. It first appeared in the 16th century as an abbreviation for family. Fam started being used commonly as slang around 1990, often in American hip-hop, according to the OED. It certainly pre-dates BTVS.

Regarding the expression "fam" being used at the time this episode aired. It's possible that the use of the word started because of it. I'm not sure that it did, but it wouldn't be the first time a trendy phrase was started by this show. This show invented the term "big bad," after all.

Loved your reaction as always :-) Your joy at Angel's return was the best hahaha. Trivia: 1.) This exchange was cut due to length:
Mr. Trick: "I believe this dance is mine."
Buffy: "The music stopped."
Mr. Trick: "But the beat goes on. Gimme whatcha got."

I think that to people now, Angel returning in episode 3 does feel a bit sudden. However, I watched the show when it aired on tv. We had waited not only 4 and a half months from the time of Angel's "death" to start season 3 (based on the final air date for season 2 and the beginning air date of season 3), but also 3 full weeks into the new season before we got Angel back. That was pretty much 5 months of waiting. So, to me, it never seemed rushed, but yeah when you're watching everything back to back I understand how it feels sudden.

The title is a play on the biblical verse, "And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love." (1 Corinthians 13:13). Faith and hope are crucial but are rendered meaningless without love. Did love bring Angel back? Or did a trick (unknown variable) bring him back? Faith facing her trauma and defeating it gave Buffy to the courage do the same with Giles, Willow, and Scott Hope, but now her love is back. π ππ π
But also, Giles demonstrated how much he loves Buffy by getting her to open up, in his most roundabout British way -- by TRICKing her. π π
P.S. Who the hell gives someone a gift for agreeing to go out on a date? *Maybe* a flower would have been okay, as Liam said, but jewelry? And not just any jewelry, but A RING?! No one does that. I hope. I would run far away. This is the one tiny plot contrivance that I donβt like in an otherwise great episode stuffed to the brim with so many delicious tidbits.

Seriously, now that Giles is officially Faith's interim Watcher, he should find a more suitable place for her and provide living expenses. Kendra was sent to live with her Watcher. Giles at minimum owes a professional duty to Faith to keep her healthy and safe (motels offer no protection against vampires).

Hey there! New Patron here. Glad to see you introduced to Faith. I hope you continue to enjoy her character. I do have a theory about her healthy appetite for food. She wasn't able to afford a motel room that charges eighteen US dollars a night. I'm guessing her snagging all of Buffy's food was because that meal may have been the first time in a long time that she's been able to eat as much as she wanted. Look at her motel room compared to Buffy's upper-middle class house. Food for thought, I like to think.

Tissues, Liam! We warned you to always have tissues on hand when you watch Buffy.
