New intermission ideas
Added 2024-04-18 15:00:04 +0000 UTCSo Dad and I have both agreed that the only way to make this re-edit worth it is to expand the video with more ideas: I also still want to do that Green Acres video, hopefully in 2024.
However, there's a big issue. I am pretty thoroughly burnt through on ideas for intermissions. We did our best ideas in the version still on the channel. I still have a few other ideas: another toy intermission, a "Things I Forgot" intermission, a paper dolls intermission, a Hillbilly parodies intermission, and finally a road trip segment of us going to the Hillbilly truck in the Ozarks.
But I'll admit I am spent otherwise. So I wanted to post this here - do y'all have any intermission ideas? I'd love to work in a few bonus ones.
I know I want to work in an intermission of Dad reading responses to the original upload (I'll say he time-traveled or something). But I think having a few bonus segments would be really fun! Be sure to leave recommendations :)

i cant remember if you have one on it yet, but you could probably do a deep dive into the theme song. Like every last detail about it. The musicians who wrote it. Its recording. Its copyright issues. The people who own it now (apparently Carolintone Music Company Inc.). Its legacy as a piece of music. The time weird al almost covered it in the style of Prince's Let's Go Crazy by Weird Al, but instead became the Dire Straits song cause Prince said no. The key, the way the music is written. The state of country music at the time. Is it actually a ballad? What qualifies it as a ballad? How does it rank with the other themes of the Henningverse? Could also do intermission like this for the Petticoat Junction and Green Acres themes, though I figure that would be less interesting given their legacy being a bit less than the parent show. But who knows.

2024-05-11 14:38:35 +0000 UTCI think that doing an intermission on the history of Beverly Hills from how it was founded until the year the show started would be good

2024-05-08 02:46:08 +0000 UTCMaybe? They might welcome the opportunity to talk about something so niche in regards to their larger career. People always want to talk about the hits. I bet they never get a chance to think about that time of their life in interviews. Just glancing through the imdb there are several people who went on to have crazy impacts who dipped their toes into the industry as kids with Hillbillies. Rob Reiner, Jeanette O'Connor, Rich Little. All those people are still working. And how freaking awesome would it be to get a 30 minute long Rob Reiner interview in the middle of a 36 hour video? My friends do an obscure movie podcast called The Movie Oubliette and you'd be surprised how many people are willing to come on even a no name thing to reminisce about old forgotten projects. What would an imdb email to their reps hurt?

2024-05-08 02:11:48 +0000 UTCThat's a hard sell for a 60-year-old show

2024-05-08 01:48:32 +0000 UTCI haven't finished the video so maybe this is already in there. But could you reach out to someone who worked on The Beverly Hill Billies and see if you could do an interview about their experiences on set? Maybe not a cast member but someone on the crew like a cameraperson or something? I'd be willing to bet there's someone who's track down-able.

2024-05-05 17:10:08 +0000 UTCI’d be super interested in what shows it was up against during airtime. What shows were in the same time slot on a different channel.

2024-05-02 18:01:58 +0000 UTCI'd like to see what advertisements for the show were like, and what that consisted of in that era

2024-04-29 22:26:32 +0000 UTCMaybe talking about knock offs of what you're reviewing I can’t think of anything else to be honest.

2024-04-28 17:50:27 +0000 UTCI'd be interested in seeing something talking about radio shows at the time. I know that for a while there radio shows were super popular and it was common for TV shows to have crossovers onto radio. I don't know if Beverly Hillbillies ended up having something like that, but even if you just talked about Fibber McGee and Molly, I'd be excited!

2024-04-27 17:26:25 +0000 UTCI am curious to hear more about the pop culture impact of those most watch episodes that was alluded to in the first video. Another would be the shift from multiple TV series in the rural area to the metropolis that occurs after. I know trading cards were a thing. As were one off toys and games but I don't know how much you can get on that. I would also say there is room for the different adaptations, such as the film starring Jim Varney. I would say that the intermissions were a delight and and I shared them with my family. So thank you for your hard work.

2024-04-25 21:28:19 +0000 UTCAre there any board games or other games inspired by either show? I can't remember if those were covered in the intermissions already
Sam Colonna
2024-04-25 15:45:47 +0000 UTCMaybe talking about older televisions and what you might have originally watched the show on when it released. Or any of the major references to the show in popular culture. I only watched 14 hours in so idk what I may be unaware of

2024-04-25 01:23:00 +0000 UTCI would love to hear more about the costumes and make up! I know it's not exactly your forte (Maybe a collab?) but the part where Elly May's courting dress and shoes from Granny were Victorian was just hilarious. Actually... how old IS Granny? (maybe this came up later... I was really savouring the video so I missed about the last 12 hours) Also I LOVED the section where Russ showed us all the old household tools and would not say no to more things like that :)

2024-04-24 02:23:12 +0000 UTCAs an australian i only knew petticoat junction existed through that one episode of futurama on moon. Also the Gabors lived absolutely insane lives there’s gotta be something there for an intermission.

2024-04-23 01:11:15 +0000 UTCI would love to see more clips of your dad's old video footage, if there is any! Also, as a European, I don't know what many of the foods that Granny cooks are supposed to be. LOL

2024-04-21 16:05:39 +0000 UTCwith the note that I haven't made it all the way through the original, so, some of these may have been done already: •small segment about the Weird Al parody of Money for Nothing by Dire Straits, which he had to title "Money for Nothing/Beverly Hillbillies" for what he calls "stupid legal reasons" •Troop Beverly Hills and other "fish out of water" stories directly about a person from Beverly Hills being forced to interact with "normies" and vice-versa [there was an episode of The Oblongs that was itself a parody of Troop Beverly Hills], in an inversion of the premise of Beverly Hillbillies •Inflation Station - a segment looking at prices of land, services, food, coal, etc. where and when Petticoat Junction is set, with particular focus on when explicit prices are mentioned on the show, taking inflation into account, to determine the junction's incoming vs. outgoing funds and consider whether it was ever a profitable business at all, and if so, by how much. something along those lines. i love things looking into the minutiae of settings like that, especially whenever the answer turns out to be hilariously different than expected.

2024-04-20 23:34:29 +0000 UTCAn intermission where they actually cook those recipes would be great
Jump On Everything
2024-04-20 14:39:53 +0000 UTCthere are a couple of beverly hillbillies-related cookbooks out there: one for the show proper, and one by irene ryan under the guide of granny. those could be worth looking into perhaps?
belsey gell
2024-04-20 11:39:38 +0000 UTCthere IS actually a beverly hillbillies cookbook, along with a separate cookbook that irene ryan wrote under the guise of granny, so following recipes wouldn't be too out there of an idea with those books.

2024-04-20 05:36:44 +0000 UTCI know it was touched on in the original video but I think Quintons mum should do a segment on women in the 60s and if the shows were progressive for the times or not.

2024-04-19 21:16:50 +0000 UTCI honestly would love the actor biographies to be extended.

2024-04-19 21:14:41 +0000 UTCI know this has been said before but a segment diving into the importance of respecting laws surrounding copyright & the public domain. for a little bit of an 'insider' perspective, i work for a small broadcast company and when launching new TV channels shows in the public domain like BHB are often used as holding shows while channels find their feet and are able to license more stuff from rights holders so it feels very scary that paramount are wrongfully trying to claim ownership. in terms of other stuff for intermissions the stage show and the point and click adventure game if they aren't already being covered. also any more obscure crossovers with british 60s shows (the thunderbirds + doctor who one was like the ultimate dad crossover) if they haven't all been covered. if you have any ideas for a beverly hillbillies modern reboot i think that could be fun, or alternatively a discussion as to why the show wouldn't work today but maybe that's more conclusion territory than intermission ...

2024-04-18 17:49:40 +0000 UTCWe want to reward people for rewatching, and also make up for the 4-5 hours we'll probably be naturally losing by making the script shorter with fewer clips
Kyle
2024-04-18 17:32:54 +0000 UTCI'd vote for a deep dive on the various Hillbillies DVD collection releases, since they seem to contain slightly different versions with or without ads etc. and some of them only being the public domain episodes.

2024-04-18 17:30:46 +0000 UTCJust the fact that you are going to say that your dad time traveled to read the comments makes me happy.

2024-04-18 17:10:06 +0000 UTCi imagine this would be apart of the toy intermission but model trains of the hooterville canonball seem to exist, and as a model train collector i think that would be very cool. also maybe like one about granny's medicines
Drew Jacob
2024-04-18 17:05:35 +0000 UTCMaybe one about Winston cigarettes and how their specific blend of tobacco gives the smoothest taste for any hillbilly
Colin Vidar
2024-04-18 17:03:54 +0000 UTCI think an intermission where he tries to find recipes for/make some of the food in the show might be fun.
Josh Wright
2024-04-18 17:03:20 +0000 UTCI'd be thrilled to hear more from your mom, tbh - I loved hearing the commentary between her & Russ!
Calliope
2024-04-18 16:38:46 +0000 UTCMaybe something cool to do would be to share references to the Hillbillies in modern media that younger audiences might not have caught. Like I’m pretty sure Hannah Montana made more than a few references to the Hillbillies, especially having an off screen character named Aunt Pearl.
Tegan Davidson
2024-04-18 16:25:22 +0000 UTCLike watching the credits and seeing so many other creators I love. Seeing how large a community was created by your videos. It needs to be preserved and loved
captain jirk
2024-04-18 15:57:18 +0000 UTCAlso I'm grateful there is someone taking a Ken Burns level approach to pop culture. I love that it's become a family franchise. I think what's happening here is beautiful and I want to help however I can
captain jirk
2024-04-18 15:56:30 +0000 UTCMaybe something about your father's personal connection to the show? Also maybe like- can the clips used. Can stills be used while maybe some eager folks could voice act the lines like with the book intermission. I know my girlfriend and I have been working on our impressions of the clampets due to the video. I don't know the solution, and you've probably thought of all the ones you can do/want to do. I just- this video was really special and I want whatever it becomes to benefit from the challenges it faced, not massacred by them.

2024-04-18 15:54:18 +0000 UTCHow about a visit to Silver Dollar City, to line up with the Clampetts visiting there in one of the later seasons.

2024-04-18 15:53:10 +0000 UTCSeconded on the recipes! That sounds amazingly fun! I would also like more lye soap content in general bc…what the heck is it?
Andy Krouse
2024-04-18 15:47:42 +0000 UTCI would love a compilation of all of the Beverly hillbillies references that other shows have made! With copyright it would be hard to show clips but even an explanation/run through would be a fun time for me. I figure the title was abt how BHB changed TV, so a run-through of shows that made references to BHB would be fun. Kind of like the original ending/after credits sequence but maybe a little more in depth and with more shows listed. I would like to see which parts of the show are most frequently referenced, etc
Andy Krouse
2024-04-18 15:43:49 +0000 UTCI agree with the people saying a public domain/copyright segment would be appropriate and interesting. Also a shipping pin board like the victorious could be really funny but idk how well it would work with these characters
Zach Womble
2024-04-18 15:41:57 +0000 UTCThose all sound great. Only ideas i can think of - there's a Beverley Hillbillies DOS game, your Dad's take on that could be good, he can do some commentary on his feelings about video games, tie in games etc. and channel his inner James Rolfe. No video game for Petticoat but there is a board game you could try to track down. You can also a line by line analysis of Weird Al's Beverley Hillbillies song and do a whole tangent about Weird Al and his relationship with television. Final thing is, unless you have it planned for the next vid, you never went through the histories of the Petticoat Junction cast the same way you did for Beverley Hillbillies. Might be tricky tho cause of the deaths and people leaving, I get if there's a "spoiler" concern or something. Other thing I can think of is talking more about the history of home media releases. Russ talked a little about the public domain releases but I think talking about like the vhs and dvd releases and any features on there maybe, BH and PJ on streaming and digital. There's also, and this might be crazy, Qooking with Quinton parody - Roasting with Russ or something, and he can make some of the foods from both shows, maybe Granny's medicine or Lye soap? Could do a whole skit where he tries to make moonshine and gets arrested. Something more meta - something about the history of copyright, Viacom/Paramount Global's history with copyright on Yt especially maybe talking shit about the Paramount Board of Directors and their dirty laundry. Stuff like that. That's all I got.
J Singh
2024-04-18 15:40:10 +0000 UTCYou could do one about copyright laws lol But like actually an intermission about syndication and public domain could be interesting.

2024-04-18 15:29:34 +0000 UTCWhen you do that Time Travel segment, will your dad wear a visor only to say "i cant see in this thing" and take it off?

2024-04-18 15:22:48 +0000 UTCI also was only a few hours into the Monolith before it got taken down, but I had a thought... How about a father/son deep dive into the life and career of Pat Buttram, since he was both Mr. Haney AND Cactus Jake in Garfield and Friends? Maybe you could see if you can find other places where the two very different worlds overlap?
The VHS Wizard
2024-04-18 15:17:11 +0000 UTCThe only one I could've offered is already up there, parodies. Talking about all the references and parodies to it throughout the years, and how long it stayed in the public consciousness? Maybe something about the collective impact shows like these had on the perception of appalachia and the south? Were they capitalizing on existing ideals or spreading the stereotype to a new audience???? I don't know at all if that'd work or even makes sense but 🤷♂️(My memory is so awful that might even have been covered already)
Seamus
2024-04-18 15:16:43 +0000 UTCMaybe something fan interactive, like a hillbillies specific mail bag from Patreon or curated YouTube comments? Maybe fan art of your dad: hillbillies? Alternatively, maybe something creative for you to produce like a hill billies fanfic reading or pitch for a hillbillies revival or movie?
ZComiX
2024-04-18 15:16:30 +0000 UTCI will say, I'm excited for the paper doll intermission. I played with my grandma's paper dolls as a kid and they were so fun. I really liked the intermissions where your dad went into the history of the actors, how their careers got started, other things they've been in. You could talk about the state of Hollywood at the time, and could talk about major events that were occuring around the same time. I am curious if there's fan fiction for anything within the series. I know it's more of an off the wall idea, but if there is, that could something to go into. A history of sitcom tropes would be cool. Like if green acres borrows a trope that was on another show, or originated a trope that went on to be a part of other shows.

2024-04-18 15:14:50 +0000 UTCHaving only seen the first 3 hours (But have the rest through archive), was there anything on the 90s movie?

2024-04-18 15:10:13 +0000 UTCi honestly loved all the intermissions yall had in the video, and am super excited about the ideas listed here!! :) i’m not sure if this would be a touchy subject, but i learned recently that the actress who played ms hathaway (nancy kulp) actually had a long-winded feud with buddy ebsen— who even went as far as speaking against her when she ran for a government position later on in her life. it might be interesting to explore the behind the scenes relationships between the actors on set, and how it affected them even after the show ended! :0 great work as always, quinton!
rosie
2024-04-18 15:10:02 +0000 UTCCould you also gimmick one of them up like the secret lil' Sam and Cat review? Those are all great ideas, so putting a twist on them could be satisfying.
Wishing every Clarence Thomas a very God rest his soul
2024-04-18 15:08:31 +0000 UTCthis re-edit is gonna have new content? and just when I thought the 38 hours was enough, they pull me back in
Alexander Toro
2024-04-18 15:07:08 +0000 UTCI haven’t gotten to watch all the first vids’ intermissions, but If you’re wanting a complete shitpost one just have your dad talk about the life and accomplishments of William Randolph Hearst, ending with him dying in Beverly Hills in 1951. Making him a Beverly Hills Billy.
Colin Schulte
2024-04-18 15:07:04 +0000 UTCMaybe you could do an intermission about the videogame
Juniper
2024-04-18 15:05:58 +0000 UTCI was introduced through all these shows through Nick at Nite and TV Land. Maybe a brief thing about the impact of the second run market on the longevity of the series? I have to assume the 90s movie is already being covered somewhere right?
