If Dexter turned himself in and the show ended around this time, Dexter wouldn't just be a great show like it is, it would be arguably one of the greatest shows of all time. Imagine he didn't steer away, and instead he confesses to Deb. Her heart is shattered, Rita's heart is shattered, but at the end of it all, he makes the hardest choice of his life to protect the few people he cares about by not only putting an end to his chaos, but by doing it in the most peaceful way possible. Letting Doakes off the hook, adding the capture of The Bayharbor Butcher to Deb's resume, and making sure none of his lifestyle ever gets back to Rita and the kids. It would be a legendary heroic ending in the most twisted and messed up way possible. The show is obviously still good how it went, and I'm really enjoying Dexter Resurrection. I'm just saying, this show was leading up to a character defining moment where Dexter defies who Harry made him out to be, and he does what he truly feels is best for the people he cares about. Even in this very episode he admitted to himself that this would all come crumbling down like a house of cards and hurt the people he cared about. And that's exactly what happens season after season after season.

2026-01-05 21:48:54 +0000 UTCAppreciate the take Rick and that could be possible…I’m just coming from a therapist perspective that what Dexter needed after Harry got him was therapy and intervention, not harnessing his urges so he won’t get caught. That’s a flaw of Harry, but also part of who he was😢

He helped Dexter channel what he was, which began in the cargo container where he was found. Arguably, Dexter would still be killing, but would have gotten caught long ago.

2026-01-03 04:08:59 +0000 UTCI hear what your saying, and here’s what my “therapist brain” says: Lundy is good for Deb (he’s kind, means well, is mature, and genuinely area for her)…but she is not in the relationship for the same reasons he is (she’s longed for a forever love , he has had that love and just appreciates the in the moment relationship that came up on the job)…so there will eventually be heartbreak unless she gives up her life for him or he gives up his life for her…and there are such things as “healthy addictions” and moderation…Deb wants him to want her as much as she wants him (which is really just what the dream is in her brain)….so it is a toxic relationship because he’s being VERY honest and she’s choosing to ignore the obvious…what if she wants children and to settle down? I do love what he brings to her life though😊

So does that still mean it isnt a good idea for them to be together? Same question about addiction. If you are a drug addict and you find that church helps you not use and you become addicted to church and religion is that a bad thing?

I’ve always loved that scene with Dexter and Deb just hanging out, eating some steaks, and drinking some beer. It feels like the first time we’ve seen real connection between them in a long time. And what a frank conversation about the state of the brain through trauma!
