The third installment of Goombella x Vivian is finally out. I should probably come up with a name for the serial surrounding everyone's favorite Goomba and Shadow Siren, but I'll leave it up for the patrons to decide that for me, because I'm super tired.
This will also be a crossover including one of my OCs, Kama the Red Mage. He'll have a serial that is based on him which will launch sometime in February or March of next year or so. So if you read the comic and you thought, "Hey, I like this Kama guy. This Kama guy's cool," then you have something to look forward to in 2026, assuming the world is still intact by then. If not, then you still have Goombella x Vivian to look forward to. It's not like I'm abandoning that project, since that what the Patrons want. I may have to alternate between Kama and GxV since I don't want one to overpower the other interms with release. I've already established that GxV is released in Even number months. Feburary, April, Now June, then August, October, and December, so I may have to do Odd numbers for Kama's series.
Also since it's June, this also makes it a Pride Month Comic. Goombella, Vivian and Kama are all Bi, with Vivian being Trans (MtF; it's actually canon)
Also There is no easter egg page since there aren't a lot of Mario references in the comic itself.
The only major easter egg worth pointing out is literally on the first page, where Kama delivers Goombella's Thick college essay.
The Japanese text reads
ワンワン遺跡の古代文明に関する観察
Goombella
クリフォルニア大学
考古学コース 1030K
When translated literally it reads:
Observations on the Ancient Civilization of the Wanwan Ruins
Goombella
University of Kuriforunia
Archaeology Course 1030K
Wanwan is the Japanese name for Chain Chomps, as according to the more accurate translations below.
University of Kurifornia is what Goombella's Alma Mater, The University of Goom, is called in the Japanese version. It's a pun on the "University of California" and "Kuribo" (The Japanese name for Goombas). Fun fact UGoom in other languages are puns on Goomba and a real world University of high prestige.
(e.g. German GameCube version uses the Humboldt University of Berlin, and European Spanish uses the Complutense University of Madrid, Italian uses Columbia and Cambridge Universities depending on if you're playing switch or GameCube. Chinese, Japanese, and Korean versions all use University of California)
The More Accurate translation would be
The Observatiosn on the Ancient Civilization of Chomp Ruins
Goombella
University of Goom
Archeology 1030K
Now for the Easter egg.
The College essay that Kama delivered to Goombella was a reference to Paper Mario: Sticker Star, the worst of the Paper Mario series. In World 5: Shy Guy Jungle, there is a junk yard that Mario stubles into, and before using the Goat or Vacuum Thing, you can interact with a piece of paper that reads
"Observations on the Ancient Civilization of the Chomp Ruins"
University of Goom
Goombella
Chomp Ruins is an area in the game that you can enter, in fact it's literally right after Shy Guy Jungle. However, Goombella is nowhere to be seen anywhere in the game. She was reduced to a blink and you'll miss name drop, and honestly I find it sacrilegious that Goombella's name can be found anywhere in Sticker Star, and to be honest, I don't think a post-game cameo, similar to Lady Bow's Postgame appearance in TTYD, would do it justice. Lady Bow appearing in TTYD felt right. PM64 was a goated game, so Bow appearing in TTYD felt like the cherry on top of an already amazing game, but like Goombella being mentioned in Sticker Star feels like an after thought, or like a shallow attempt at fanservice for a game that doesn't need it.
Like I'm sorry, Goombella can't fix Sticker Star. No amount of her Star Power (get it?) is going to make PMSS not suck.
