Roy Mustang's flame alchemy is done by the transmutation of air (compressing it very densely), then creating a spark with his gloves to ignite it. Scar did touch the stairs that Ed transmuted to get them away from him. Ed extends the place they were on diagonally. Scar reaches out in front of him and swipes at that part of the steps destroying their escape. Dr Marcos philosophers stone is "incomplete" because it was missing ingredients. No different than the ring the Priest had in Liore. It still works but has a finite limit it can be used. Lust, Envy and Gluttony have all been confirmed names. They called their names in the conversation in Liore. Dr Marco does not know who Lust is. But anyone sitting your house calling you by your real name (because he was going by an alias in the town), as you went AWOL from the military, would have you scared too.
