When they say she was supposed to die, they mean Isayama originally planned to have her die then, but then changed his mind. She dies the same way at the same time in the manga as she does in the anime.

She wasn't trying to say Niccolo. On top of that, the the Japanese pronunciation for "Niku" and "Niko (ro)" are different and if you speak Japanese it's easy to hear
