In the Shining the little boy is sort of psychic. I haven't seen the movie, but I've read the book. In the book they call these supernatural abilities "shining". The boy meets this man Richard Hallorann in the book, who also has it, and he explains it to him. This show is not based ONLY on IT, it incorporates a lot of other King's novels that take place insame universe or connected to it. Like there is a theory, that the reason the kids from IT were able to see through Pennywise's illusions and defeat it, is because they have a form of "shining" too. Judging from previews and a trailer, they also incorporate "The Mist" and Shawshank , and it looks like there may be some connections to Firestarter or even Carrie, probably some other concepts or characters from other King's novels that I don't recognise, coz I haven't read that much from him. Basically, it's not strictly a prequel to the movie IT, but rather a new story set in Derry universe of Steven King, but with primary storyline of Pennywise origins.
