They said it at one of the episodes that every dojo has to have one female and male captains that will fight at the end. The whole tournament is televised but individually you will not get the spotlight and chances the captains would get. Also the sponsors and all that. Thats why Miguel, Robby and Tory were all fighting for. You are correct they definitely didn’t know what they signed up for but also going to any world championship tournaments and they picked the goers by that method is wild like Devon and Demitri should not be in that top 6 it should have been Hawk and Kenny from the start.
