I love Eli's character. When I first watched the show it took a while for me to warm up to him because I missed/loved Rick's character so much. Jamie Kennedy is so funny in his role though, he definitely makes up for Rick being gone. I do agree with you about Rick's character. I believed that he secretly was in love with Melinda. It became more and more obvious to me, and I honestly believe that (in the show) that's why he really left and not just because of the sabbatical. My theory is he left because he knew that he couldn't have Melinda and it was tearing him up inside. Great reaction!!

I don't know if this is going to make sense to you at all, but I have the Ghost Whisperer DVD's and in one of the commentary's for an episode the director said something about Delia being like a mother figure to Melinda. She's older than Melinda and she's more closed-minded, so the mother figure friend does kind of check out. Ned is way more accepting and open-minded. The thing with Eli's character being only to hear the ghosts and not see them is because he's a therapist, they thought it would make sense that he would only hear them. It's very clever imo lol. Rick leaving was such a huge disappointment to me, he was one of my favorites in this show. I loved their little moment they had before he left, I think Melinda was more worried than anything considering the warnings and threats she's been getting about her friends. The lady ghost that helped Melinda was giving her a warning, basically what you said. She was warning Melinda that people she loves can get hurt or die from knowing about her gift, like what happened to Andrea. Technically Gabriel was supposed to be her brother, but finding out that Tom wasn't her dad just made him not her brother anymore lol.
