Boy Meets World ""We'll Have a Good Time Then..."" 6x13 Reaction

My father just died last month. He was pretty in and out of my life, about like Chet and Christopher from Gilmore Girls. My mom would lie and say he’s working when I asked why he didn’t call or visit. Eventually I stopped asking. I was in a situation kind of like Jack where I had a stepdad who, while not as rich as Jack’s family, was there. So when the hospital chaplain was in that room telling us to talk about the good times and happy memories, I couldn’t think of any. Like Lorelai in GG, I couldn’t think of the time he bought me a Barbie or took me fishing. All I could think about was my stepdad running over my suitcase when I was five and taking us the wrong way down a one way street when we were touring a college. At the end of the day, I was the lucky one. I was there at his bedside with my evil former stepmother and p*do half brother, like he asked. And then I got to go back to my life. There’s nothing to miss. Growing up, I identified with Shawn. I shared his cynicism, especially when it came to family and our fathers. Still do, but I see myself in Jack more now too. You mentioned something about kids. Keep being a good dad to them. It’s good when you miss your parents. Sorry for the rant. Therapy is expensive.
