I think the band was bad because they didn't rehearse and they probably weren't ready to perform at a venue like that in general. And I actually think eight months of filming is normal for a one-hour, 22-episode season at the time. Or, at least that's what I understand from listening to the OTH podcast and also what I've heard from the TVD cast. That's why it was hard for a lot of those actors to work on anything.
