To answer your question about why Katherine used Damon is because she wanted (and still does) to manipulate him and have him wrapped around her finger. It's easy for Katherine to manipulate and play Damon because he loved her for so long, at least that's what it seems like to me after he confessed he still loved her (EP:2x1) after all those years he thought she was in the tomb.

I have seen Vampire Diaries 10+ times over and even since the first time I watched this show, I always believed Katherine really was in love with Stefan even in their present time. My own personal opinion I feel like she was only in love with Stefan, but also loved Damon but just wasn't in love with him. She treats Damon way differently than Stefan, example: when she went up to Stefan and told him she loves him and they'll be together again but didn't do that with Damon even though originally she wanted all of them to be together (coming from Stefan and Katherine's mouth in season 1). There were a lot of other times it was obvious besides that scene that she only really loved Stefan. Sometimes I feel like she's horrible with Damon because she knows he will still have a soft spot for her so she manipulates him and has him wrapped around her finger. Also I don't believe in the slightest that Stefan still loves Katherine in that way. Your reaction to Katherine kissing Stefan at the end is so funny lmfao!!! I honestly think she touched her lips and smiled like that because she's just down bad for Stefan, she loves him. Also Stefan did kind of play along to kissing her as a distraction earlier in the episode when he stabbed her with that vervain shot thingy, his lips did actually touch hers at that moment. Even though they didn't show that part in her little flashback, she could've been thinking about that moment as well. In my opinion, she was just happy she got to kiss him even if it wasn't romantic.
