New year off to a shitty start

Today in the shower I was thinking that I should write either the end-of-month report or an annual summary. Meanwhile, the PC was rendering Argay's images. Four pictures of him talking to Miranda in the restaurant. I had finished my shower, so I wanted to feed my old cat, who is almost twenty years old.

And while he was eating, and I was keeping the two young cats from stealing the old one's food, I heard a bang from the direction of the PC. Rendering stopped, but that's because it's done. There was no sign of anything else. At first, I thought my Alien Queen statue had toppled over, but it was standing.

I have started the following rendering. And trouble came. The PC slowed down, the render clearly skipped to the CPU. Then a few seconds later my monitor went black. And I immediately realised that what I had feared for some time had happened: my video card had died. I removed the PC wall and found the VGA fan in the bottom of the case.

The bad luck is that I wanted to buy the new video card in February. I'm not going to have this repaired, it's useless, I want to replace it. However, I am not yet in a financial position to buy a new VGA in January. I may yet manage to do this, though. I'm not eating for a week or I'll sell a kidney (not mine - muhahahahaaa :D ) or something.

Anyway, the rendering work will stop until I buy the new video card. This will happen in early February at the latest, I don't know at the earliest. Maybe in a few days, if I can find the small amount of cash that is still missing.

However, not all work stops. The writing and coding continues, and I am slowly starting Chapter 11 on this line. I can even continue to set the pictures, because that requires the CPU and the memory, not the video card. (Although it is possible that without a fan, VGA will eventually succumb. Although the PC is under the open window and it is currently winter, which is an advantage.)

So only new pictures won't be rendered for a while. The good news is that rendering will be significantly faster with the new card. So, if I continue to work on this line, I'll probably be able to get the images faster than with the current VGA.

This also means that I won't be able to share any new images this month nor at the beginning of next month, unless you're interested in Word documents (in Hungarian), Renpy screenshots or Daz3D working progress images.

So this is the current situation. Life fucked me again. But I'm not giving up. I'm going to finish Chapter 10, and even if I die, I'll keep working on Rise.
