I'm kind of astonished to say that I got to work with one of the co-founders of the Velvet Underground for this installment of mail club. (Never thought I would say that!)
You'll be receiving the twirling, spinning pop-up collage pictured above. It is a limited edition paper art object that will be included with the first 1000 copies of John Cale's new album, Poptical Illusion. My role was to contribute the 3-D part. The exquisite second dimension was created by art director Rob Carmichael and collage artist and sculptor Bjorn Copeland. :)
In your packages, you'll find the assembled pop-up twirling card, as well as a flat, unfolded version—should you wish to try to puzzle it into the third dimension. (however: I'm standing by if the challenge is too frustrating!) I'm also including a brief interview with Rob and Bjorn about their respective processes, how each designs for music, and the challenges they each faced when working with one of their idols. Enjoy!
