(I recommend googling it it’s awesome) Never has it been done and in the very first attempt the team placed 39th out of 62 not great yes but given that they beat 23 other cars/ teams that do that sport regularly is astonishing and giving the team 4 years (Le Mans happens once a year) they could easily crack top 10 imo

Soccer is atleast 5th on the totem pole behind basketball baseball football and hockey and we still have quite a few players who play in the top leagues in Europe. Out of the other 4 sports we dominate at, the only one that other countries have been able to compete with is basketball.

The crossover between NFL and AFL is quite high, you "just" generally need to be quite built, have elite hand-eye coordination and have elite fitness. Yes, you can be scouted for AFL as a college football player in the US, but you couldn't just take any college athlete from the US and they're AFL ready. The point is even more absurd when there's only **one** American AFL player right now, but ~6 or so Australian NFL players lmfao

I have only ever heard his name on the Yard and Ludwig's streams/videos. And because of that, he has the honour of being the only baseball player I can name other than ones from decades ago that seeped into my brain just by being referenced on American TV shows. Wouldn't be able to pick a single one out if I walked past them in the street, including Shohei Ohtani. And yeah Jack Black is arguably one of the most famous and easily recognisable actors of the 21st century if you think about how famous he is across multiple generations, now he has the minecraft kids.

So as far as the Ultra Marathon scene not getting as much attention and seeming more "Mickey Mouse" than other events, like the Marathon, that comes down to a cost benefit for a specific athlete. Professional runners gravitate towards the Mile-Marathon because the training for these events is relatively similar (all of these require a very strong aerobic base, some require slightly more anaerobic power, but mostly aerobic fitness) and the events themselves are relatively plentiful and don't have super long recovery cycles. And crucially, Ultra Marathons are notoriously difficult to televise and have almost no money in the scene to support a rubust pro circuit. So if you were a professional, running an Ultra means you would be forgoing doing other events in the lead up to your event, doing your event, and then needing a very long recovery period just to get a scrap of what you could make for being able to do 2-3 major marathons a year plus having a few indoor and outdoor track and field and shorter road races to do that would all pay way more. Source: I've ran 7 marathons myself, know some ultra runners and pro distance runners.
