Ep. 191 Premium - the boys take the brain rot quiz [VIDEO]

Comments

https://knowyourmeme.com/photos/2445322-four-stages-of-simulation This was in my head when they talked about abstraction and pattern recognition smiley face.

This the best episode ong

These are my social anthropology professors

Kevin Reyes

Beanos is pre AI

steezytcz

I think I’m Aiden pilled after coaching my 8 year old sons baseball team and hearing chicken Jockey chants after being threatened to run they have no remorse or fear. But in some ways that’s beautiful

Devon Kinsel

i wann call him jubward

Raymond Martinez

i think what Aiden was trying to get at was not that the brain rot itself is bad, but the problem is that the kids are more primed for consumption and being almost instructed in a way to simply recognize culture and bond with eachother over the recognition of said culture than to have their own unique interpretation of the world around them. my reasoning is based around the same concept as the "creativity crisis". the creativity crisis references the overall decline of creativity in the United States since the sixties (declining at a more rapid rate in the last decade-ish). Professor KH Kim (who coined the term creativity crisis) theorized that it is due to the overly standardized education system that the US has adopted in which risk taking (which is the soul of creativity) is punished and the intake and regurgitation of information is rewarded. everything now falls into a structure instead of being left to be molded by social dynamics. Thinking back to my childhood, we had plenty of time spent at the park or in a play ground where we had to create our own games, then implement a way of regulating the game to ensure fairness, all the while testing eachother on the scale of social hierarchy. even if we were playing a game that had an existing set of rules (like soccer or football) there would still be the sorting of the hierarchy, eg. who gets to be team captain, who is the best player, where do I stand amongst my peers, am I cool/clouted enough to break the rules and get away with it. when i compare that to the environment that children grow up in today, there is a huge decline in the amount of "free play" that is allowed. the teaching style that teachers are forced to take follows a "telling" style as opposed to a "challenge" style. then this problem is exacerbated by the fact that in children's free time they don't engage in the same style of play that I experienced and described above, instead they pick up their phones and are exposed to the same things their whole generation is exposed to. they are then faced with the binary option of either "I like this" or "I don't like this". the only creativity that emerges from this system is the bastardization of an existing meme, aka brain rot. sure the brain rot often takes on a very different meaning than the original meme but it still stays within the confines of the lens of pre-existing memes. i guess the best way to summarize what im saying is, the problem isn't the brain rot, it's the standardization of brain rot. https://www.ideatovalue.com/crea/khkim/2017/04/creativity-crisis-getting-worse/?utm_source=chatgpt.com I realize this is super long and probably took a turn from what Aiden was trying to get at, but I put too much thought and effort into this to not post it. if you read all the way through ily ❤️

Missing this episode made the following 2 weeks of Slime utterly unintelligible I'm glad to finally have the full picture

Theo Higgins

Slime really does have a beautiful way of describing things sometimes.

Ryan Abouchedid

I really need to know what Caleb Pitts called to say

Eddie

I must say that I got really high listening to this and thoroughly enjoyed the ep. Massive props to slime btw, I hope you read this: seeing this and thinking about how it would make an amazing podcast ep. to show to the boys for the first time was an amazing plan for a good episode. I appreciate the work of the producer/writer role in a podcast more after this one.

Andrew Bachman

They’ll be ok

Isaac Koedood

In a million years I would've never thought Beanos was gonna be here, I maybe that my joke names for a few months.

Ash2k

Nick being so confidently saying I pull up

93 Feet of Smoked Meat

got 32 correct we take those

Unfrendly

fr???

nathan jarvis

im so disappointed in them i wanted to throw my monitor

nathan jarvis

im almost 30 man i cant

Zettha

Chopped huzz implies the existence of screwed huzz. This is a reference to Chopped and Screwed . Thanks

Hugh Skidmore

yeah im 19 and I got most of these, I genuinely forgot fuhalihtoogan and jittleyan and being reminded of that made me react like one of those videos where a dad comes home from the military to their young child who sort of doesnt understand the gravity of whats happening

Theo T

i’m 20 and i’ve never felt so old. i only knew things from the og section. chat am i cooked

strawbebbiepeach

not knowing huzz is funny yall are OLD

Zion Blartt

I’m really not sure how to explain it through text but let’s say you’re doing 68x58 you make a box and since it’s 2 digits in both numbers you make four quadrants and put 68 on top of the box and 58 on the side of the box and “cross multiply” then add the sum or some stupid shit like that

Steven Johnson

Box method for multiplication? Isn’t that just “long multiplication” but arranged differently? or is this something else

Azure

my roomate scripted, filmed, and posted the original jittlyang or fuhulatoogan video

william woodroffe

So wait, kinda spaced out a bit there - Are the kids gonna be alrite?

Phil

one hour of 30 yr olds saying the kids are fucked 🥀needed ludwig for this debate

wendal

everybody lost tapped in points this episode except slime, yall need to pull out all the stops next ep

wendal

Nick doesn't know Gelo is so fucked up man

Matthew David

I hate Nick's argument style of just talking over Aiden, muddling the original argument with whole essays

Manuel Martinez

slime is absolutely the most tapped in

Zach Rothrock

Hit the nail on the head with who understands all the brainrot - Highschooler failing all his classes

Penguin B

lowk such a profound ep i can’t lie

juliette

we got the chuzz the huzz and the fuzz here

Frost_worth

bro just isnt tapped in

Mat P

lowkey i think aimens take was whack

Mat P

beanos was in and out in the time it took for infinity war to stop being talked about

Quendyn

Dat boy is a zoomer meme

Vova

My girlfriend who is an elementary teacher has told me the real reason literacy rates are so low is due to the whole language learning curriculum. Please research it as it is massively detrimental to kids, and we NEED to address this issue.

Hayden Albrecht

You guys don't have to worry about ruining Beanos I remember that meme was popular back in 2019.

Jiren Joestar

My girlfriend teaches grades 2-4 and the kids are honestly alright, like they are brainrotted but they are learning and creating things. The rot may consume but it fosters creativity and bonds in children. Like i wish when i was a kid I can just say brainrot and make friends.

delphox

Perhaps. But even obvious sarcasm seems hard as well. And also when talking to 10-25 year olds, irony and sarcasm seems hard, or not found funny.

harm van zon

I think it's mostly because of text communication becoming more prominent. In a voice call it's easy to tell when someone is being sarcastic but nuanced sarcasm reads identical to a genuine statement on a platform like Twitter or Tumblr. You can't put inflection into letters on a screen.

Matthew Alvaro

Young people, I notice, have a huge problem with Irony and Sarcasm. Even the fact that /s exist says enough. So all humor seems to be abstract and 'silly'. There's no context, or depth. It's just funny.

harm van zon

I really like these serious semi-intellectiual conversations in the Yard. Is it a coincidence that they're happening when Ludwig is not around.......

harm van zon

this episode solidified the 3 of yall as uncs

Elias Fresquez

You young people (yeah I’m late 30s) forget about the band Lit from the 90s when debating if the term lit is cringe when used by white people and/or its origins.

CHEisme

I asked one of the kids a the school i work at a yes/no question and je answered with "sigma bro" and 3 others echoed it...

DaveGuy

He’s saying complex social ideas not theoreticals

Brayden Poling

beanos been dead 😔

Jade Billy

Beanos was all over my TL when I was a senior in high-school 2020 or maybe even 2019

Jade Billy

Sounds like a dumbass

cripmas

Everybody hates you

cripmas

this isnt even the frontier

Nolan Voit

Both can exist at the same time. Genuinely that fear won’t go away any time soon unfortunately, but cell phone use in class / in other classes is 100% a problem. From experience, my HS students just don’t know how to function without one. Which is exactly like how I wasn’t able to function without a phone in HS either.

yungsos

Literally same

Keagan Sieber

I think it's just a reclamation term from parents saying memes rot your brain

Vap0r1ze

Hop off the preemo jhit

Vap0r1ze

Loved this

Vap0r1ze

per nick's point of kids being able to understand complex ideas more: they cannot. I am a music teacher and all previous generations are not able to think for themselves and solve any kind of problem, they just give up. asking them to connect two dots together in thought is impossible

Colin Montville

I’m 19 and got 20/50……

Ayana Owen

For eg. https://vikalpdesign.com/common_mis

Mikachu

The point of understanding alien subcultures has to be to better understand your own

Mikachu

My little sister has literally said to me that because of TikTok she “doesn’t even have the attention span for YouTube” anymore.

katie

screaming huzz at my phone @1am also beanos is old gng 🥀

icykangaroo

beanos is not new at all like 2019 did it have a resurgence? why? also i got 11 questions wrong

Woodland

I can’t articulate why but trying to philosophize over the younger generations cultural zeitgeist is extremely unc behavior. You should talk about cum and piss more 👍

cloutzie

BRO THIS IS A GOATED EP

Ben On-It

I'm gonna be real, I am listening to this to distract myself from pissing. The gas station is 10mins away. I've never locked in to The Yard so hard in my life. Edit: I made it

TheSoapPope

THATISBEANOS

RestingStitchface

Nick saying slimes the least was wrong lol slime definitely is just this pod alone proves it

Australia Isn’t real

I appreciate the insight, and I think something that adds to it is the how we have to be plugged in all the time, especially with meme culture quickly accessible right in out pocket. Honestly I was playing balatro while listening, and actually got up from my chair after and started reading a physical book just to prove to myself that I can still do that.

Chad

The way this is written makes it seem like you lose interest in any topic that isn't cum jokes.

Brian

Nick pulling up Rucka Rucka is crazy.

Brian

i have a 32 year old friend that is a trauma surgeon and participated in the 2014 ukranian riots and he consumes more tiktok brainrot than anyone i know edit: i had him take the quiz. the only three he didnt get were fuhulatoogan, Kai Cenat and YourRage, he said “where’s John Pork” and then clicked the account to watch the rest of the videos

53n831

idk man to each his own i’ve loved both

Madeline

Oh no! Friends having a nuanced conversation!

Gunslingr

I was yelling "HUZZ GOD DAMNIT HUZZ" like a child watching dora

cuddr

disappointed in their performance

Ivan Lopez

they didnt know huzz. damn i thought they were tapped in

Ivan Lopez

AI SpongeBob pulling out “Fuhulatoogan” might be one of the funniest things I’ve ever heard

Cm0n

i dont want my podcasters to die :(

Rav

I totally agree, when I think of something like skibidi toilet to me that's just the minions or rabbids of today's generation. It's all about the context and related references that slowly build up this specific culture that is defined by it's ability to be unknowable or confusing to generations above it. People in my generation don't understand skibidi toilet the same way boomers didn't understand impact font memes or early internet culture, it's just 'time is a flat circle' tinted by your specific culture, which will always seem the most novel and perfect for you, which is exactly what every generation before you has said as well.

Medium

and i'm here for it

Marten Gorrebeeck

I've worked with elementary school kids for some high school community service stuff a few years ago, and while things like reading comprehension are falling behind, the kids are so much more emotionally intelligent than when I was younger. It does feel like the culture is shifting away from the logic dominated one of my youth, to a more emotional, human one. I agree with Aiden that the loss of these certain aspects definitely has an impact, but from what I can see, the hyper-logical generations of ours and before are seemingly what create the cold, distanced adults that feel more secure in their knowledge rather than with others, which feels detrimental in its own right. Our generations’ logic skills and critical thinking made it easier to make splits and boundaries in our communities, overthinking even the littlest differences into large divides. A more homogenized culture could point towards a higher tolerance for others and a better social-emotional state of mind in the youth. That’s without saying that our current reading comprehension skills and other related statistics now are about where they were in the late 80s to early 90s, a time when people were more connected than now. I think we’re slowly making our way back to a time like that, and the social issues and loneliness we’re experiencing now are the shackles of a hyper logical society that we’ll eventually break through. We’ve forced ourselves into this disconnected society because we thought it would be more efficient, easier, faster; and it is, but we don’t need that, we need human connection. I think that's where we're putting our marbles instead of the things that (though very positive) aren't solving the issues many people deal with today, like loneliness or anxiety. Sorry to get crazy in the preemo cum dump, I’m autistic and this shit is very interesting to me. Loved the ep!!

Medium

I'm glad we finally got to see some CP on the show

Yolo_chicken

Ngl some of these topics in the past two episodes have been the least engaging out of any bonus episodes. I had to shut it off after listening to couples sleeping preferences for 15 min last episode. After the 30 min mark on this episode it just became a philosophical debate about the youth.

Bobby

Not sure I like the fact this episode is the one that got me to subscribe to the patreon

Jacob

Uhoh Ludwig won the bet does Nick go bald to the bone now? (I forgot what the bet was for)

Buggy

i feel like brainrot is just replacing the word meme atp 😭

lemoneevee

The brainrot quiz is too easy, im actually cooked beyond repair.

Cucky Cheese

37:30 Unfortunately I think the ban of smartphones in class (not in school, I think the differentiation is important) will not be viable until the fear of gun violence in school is majorly reduced

Logan Bearry

I raw named beanos as the 1 from numberjacks im so old

jmiester26 _

I got 30% dumber watching this ep

Chuck

33 and tapped allll the way in baby

Tyler Pierce

I am 36 years old and I got way too many of these. Fuck.

Virginia Engroff

I was aidenpilled at some point and hated a lot my generation liked and did, but i've come around and think most of it was fine and a lot of what the kids are into is chill, even if its not for me

Daddywarbucks

Just chillin with the chuzz the bruzz and the huzz

kam

21:27 Nick and slime instantly looking at each other in unison as to Aiden's brainrot is killing me

Bruh Hurb

Burnie was so annoyed by the phrase it was incredible

Max kitzmiller

I'm completely sure this episode was an experiment. "How long can we go serving up absolute slop before they click off?" You're terrorists

Adam

I fucking remember when I thought "selfie" was dumb and never gonna catch on. Also specifically remember a bit on the Rooster Teeth podcast where they say the same thing lmao.

John

look at Aidens lil cheeks poking through that chair.. ya right there.

Cal

38:07 - The layers of irony keep on stacking as they believe the Beanos meme is only now dead because of them, and hasn’t been dead for literally five years

Louis Richer

where is dnd

absurdism

i love when they debate on this show cus they’re like actually willing to hear each other out

so lie

Im saying

Wyatt

Ikr like why was bro there. Bean memes in general have been gone since 2020

Jack N

I found out about him from his cover of thrift shop where he's osama bin laden

Jack N

i fucked the curve up my bad yall

breezie

I'm 20 and I didn't know a majority of these don't feel bad

Johl

They don’t even know we just call em chuzz 🤦‍♂️

Veasle

Dude yeah. Having 19 dollar fortnite card but no skibidi or chopped chin or even John Pork is crazy

Jack N

Yeah some of these are definitely old. Beanos is also kinda oldhead shit

Jack N

Thank you so much

Jack N

I thought the dune joke was funny I dunno

Daniel S Keeling

I was gonna say, the fact that beanie is long dead makes this a lot funnier

Holden Westberg

i dont want the yard to get old 😢

E

https://youtu.be/8HhzRd9taEU

Ianhandsup

As brit seeing Beanos for the first time and screaming that he’s from Numberjacks. That show terrified me as a kid

Joe

The kids are gonna be alright, man.

Dad Rs

loved the section, but the brainrot video quiz itself was straight ass, in what world is the 19 dollar fortnite card a part of modern brainrot

neek

with the giant keyboard in front of him and the glasses nick looks like a toddler

Art3m1s

the gang looks like all the other guys in The Marias that aren’t Maria

Alex Chavez

Wait r u the real kyzrs like from vine editing????

Isaac Miecznikowski

this went from haha brain rot quiz to a study on generational comedy

anna

Yo unk it ain't that deep

Oliver Peretti

I wish i was born 10 years earlier

Joseph Wasilewski

Slime’s absolutely right in how miraculous it is that humans have pattern recognition and assigning meaning to symbols, which can be literally anything. Rizz had no meaning prior to some kid shortening charisma and assigning a social value to it, and rizz has developed over the past [x] amount of years. This ability is what makes human different from every other species on Earth, and is the foundation of evolutionary sociology. Yeah, it makes sense from a human perspective that we’ve evolved to be like this, but know that no species has done it except for us, and that’s pretty cool.

natalie e

As a gen z, most of the brainrot in that quiz is old shit.

Yeetonaseat

25:26 I'm pretty sure that's one from the numberjacks

Samual Norman

Great episode, funny first half, thoughtful second half, both were great, I liked Nick's view on what it means for the current generation of kids, I'm one of the few people who thinks that every generation of kids gets a little bit smarter than the last, even if the manner in which that intelligence presents itself varies. The ability to withstand cognitive load and the threshold of that cognitive load is always increasing as information becomes more ubiquitous, on average. Obviously not everyone can be Archimedes but compare the reasoning ability of the common man from 1925 and the common man from 2025 and I'd say 2025 is coming out on top. Obviously there are downsides to this. I imagine there are probably mental health impacts that are not so great. But as the famous Pete Townshend lyric went, the kids are grand. Don't let The Offspring fool you, they are well-documented cowards and liars.

Andy Hackett

oh fuck yes. im so ready for slime to just somehow know all of them

nell

as a senior in highschool, i back both of these statements

nell

brainrot is kinda like dadaism

Antoschka

Talk to a teacher, they’re changing so much of the curriculum that don’t teach kids to read the way they taught us. It’s fucked, don’t even get me started on that box method

Steven Johnson

not having tiktok installed is like not having vine installed in 2015 im cooked 💔

kyzrs

Just looked up Rucka rucka ali out of interest and he has a parody song released a month ago called “treat jew better” which has a cartoon hitler in the thumbnail. So I guess he’s still on that grind.

Alex

Regarding having phones in school, I absolutely agree lmao no one does anything at school and are on their phones majority of the day. As someone who does it as well lmfao

omelet

Btw slime is definitely the most plugged in at least on the pod

Bruno Giovanna

I knew basically like everything, junior in high school and I can guarantee ppl my age wouldn’t get a lot of the old brain rot. Majority of the brain rot people know a lot are the streamer ones

omelet

I think the fundamentals of brainrot are that it just shows up on your feed and you don't have to understand it e.g. the oi oi oi is some cringe anime way of acting cool but the average person doesn't know that. I look at these as an amalgamation of references and in a similar fashion to art you don't have to know the artists biography to understand their piece.

Bruno Giovanna

Ts pmo 🥀😭🪫

Cota Springer

The moment they brought up ruckaruckaali I shriveled into a skeleton

gamerguyzx

Quandale Dingle is an edited version of Young Boy so Aimen is right

Kebabdul

Beanos was big on TikTok during the pandemic

Filippo Antonacci

To elaborate, I think it’s very easy for older people to assume that “ohh I saw this on tiktok so everyone must’ve seen it” or “ohhh this one brainrot thing is what the kids are into these days”. I think generalizing things like that, or like when Nick just assumes the origins of a joke is from one thing, is what actually makes u guys look old, not the lack of knowledge on brainrot. I know I might sound hatery, but I promise I just wanted to spark a conversation about this disconnect of generations that I’ve perceived. Good ep nonetheless

Randy’s Ilva

I think the most boomer part about this is actually the assumption that all gen alpha / gen z are brainrotted in the first place. I think as we get further away from understanding internet culture, the easier it is to be like “wow, everyone younger than me is doing this stupid thing” when in reality, everyone is into stupid things when they’re young. I think that most kids I talk to in gen z or gen alpha would probably get as much of the quiz right as you guys would. Tldr; I think that u guys aren’t giving gen z / alpha enough credit, because I think most are just normal people that have stupid gatekeepy humor that y’all had when you were younger.

Randy’s Ilva
