This is my first experiment at providing an overview of the nude industry, which is now closely intertwined with AI. Here are my findings for June/July.
JUNE 2025
• France: “porn blackout” from June 4–20 — Aylo (Pornhub/YouPorn/RedTube) self-blocked access from France due to ARCOM’s age-verification requirements; on June 20, after an administrative court decision, the sites returned. In July, the top administrative court reaffirmed mandatory AV.
• USA: On June 27, the Supreme Court upheld Texas’s HB1181 requiring age verification on porn sites (6–3 decision).
• EU / DSA: By June 15, consultations on the final guidelines for protection of minors were completed; a unified EU approach to AV was announced (details published in July).
• Sweden: A law banning the purchase of “remote sexual services” (online acts/custom content) was adopted, taking effect July 1; pre-recorded content remains permissible.
• Reddit: June 4 — new profile privacy settings allowing users to hide post/comment history (including NSFW) from public profiles.
• Fansly: June 23–28 — rules updated, with tighter restrictions on certain scenarios (including “public/outdoor”).
• Apple (WWDC, June 9–11): Declared Age Range API announced and child-safety tools expanded across the iOS ecosystem.
• Patreon: No separate June announcements; native video remains unavailable to Adult/18+ accounts.
• XRCO Awards: The 2025 summer ceremony was held; results and the full recording were published.
• Wave of “digital clones” and celeb chatbots: mid-month hype — rising interest in “AI muses” and “spicy chats” powered by avatar platforms.
• App marketplaces: second half of June — removals of certain NSFW/AI apps following reports about abuse risks.
• Generative services: stricter filters around nudity and “18+” prompts; more age checks and warnings for “sensitive” prompts.
JULY 2025
• United Kingdom (Online Safety Act): From July 25 — mandatory “strong” age checks for sites and apps with access to porn; on July 31 the regulator announced probes into several companies (dozens of sites).
• France: On July 15 the top administrative court reaffirmed mandatory AV for major porn sites.
• EU / DSA: July 14 — final guidelines for protection of minors published and a “privacy-preserving” AV app prototype was shown (pilots in several EU countries).
• Sweden: From July 1 the law criminalizing the purchase of “remote sexual services” took effect; pre-recorded content is not covered.
• X (Twitter): rollout of a multi-step age-assurance flow for regions with AV requirements (including UK/EU).
• Instagram / Meta (July 23): enhanced protections for teen accounts and stronger enforcement against “sexualized” comments.
• Reddit (UK): introduction of age checks for access to NSFW subreddits, with localized technical limitations.
• itch.io: late July — de-indexing of adult/NSFW content from search and catalogs followed by partial re-indexing and clarifications.
• Gaming industry: late-month debates on “censorship” of NSFW games and pressure from payment processors on UGC platforms.
• Generative platforms are strengthening age gates and content labeling (warnings, adult filters, watermarks).
• In AV-required regions (UK/EU) — gradual tightening of responses to explicit “nude” prompts: web-version limits and extra checks in apps.
• Commercial “AI-girlfriend/AI-creator” services are expanding over the summer (chat subscriptions, private sessions), with emerging local age rules for access to “spicy” models.
