Hey everyone!
Just to give you a taste of the upcoming video, here's a work in progress version! The video portion doesn't really correlate with much of what is being said in the video right now, but while I'm finishing that actual edit off I figured I'd post something for Patreon at the end of the month and give you something to look at while focusing on the audio for now. Hope that's OK—thanks so much for your patience, the fully edited video will be with you very soon.
If the videos with millions of views are to be believed, the problem with modern gaming is actually a few problems that could fall under the umbrella of "people are bored"—aggressive monetisation, shoddy technical performance and lack of innovation being the reasons that modern gaming sucks. That said, to me, as someone who can't keep up with all the amazing games releasing right now, the answer is simple—it's indie games. The real problem with modern gaming, then is something more insidious and tricky to wrestle with—the framework for supporting the good stuff isn't sustainable. Part list of indie recommendations, part rumination on what can sometimes feel like a rigged industry, let's discuss/analyse the REAL problem with modern gaming.
This one was fun to put together—as I state in the video, I've been thinking about how to cover more indie stuff more sustainably for a while now, and I can't say I'm closer to finding a truly airtight solution. That said, if I can just take some time every so often to talk about the cool stuff I'm playing (even if it means framing things in a slightly less straightahead manner) then I suppose I can live with that. Hope you enjoy this one.
Also, thank you so much for your continued support. I wouldn't be able to work on stuff like this, explore these ideas without you. I am forever grateful—you are all the best.
I'll see you soon with the finished video!
Thanks again,
Hamish
