I had one too many motorbike accidents in Thailand, all but one because of Thai people doing stupid shit. Judging by the state of some of my helmets, I would have smashed my head in most cases. Last one was so fk'd up, that I will never ride a bike in Thailand again, unless in a big group. If you want to be save, there is really only one way: rent a car, or grab an actual taxi that got doors on it.
