Progress Report - Week of 2024/06/23

Hello, all!

You may be asking yourself, "Self, why was there no Explanation Point progress report last week?" And that's a good question! You should ask it to me, not you. The answer? I forgot about it. Just straight-up forgot that that was something I was supposed to be doing. Sorry about it! Here's the progress report for this week, though, and despite a debilitating fever that took me out of commission for a couple of days (and may do so again), progress has been good! Here's how it's going!

MY BIRTHDAY: My birthday was on Sunday! I took that day off. Hope nobody minds. Went shopping with my wife and found a lot of neat stuff for the renaissance faire we're going to at the end of the month. It was a fun day!

RESEARCH: On Monday and Tuesday, I watched all of Delicious in Dungeon for the Delicious in Dungeon review video. I dropped it after two or three episodes my first time through because I found a couple of the characters completely insufferable. And as much as I wound up enjoying the series, I honestly don't feel like I would've missed much if I'd never gone back to it. I give it an 8/10 or so! Very much not bad! And I think the video is going to turn out great.

SCRIPT WRITING: Finished watching the show and got immediately to writing the script on Tuesday. Took a break to record some of the OP (and. . . we'll talk about that later), then finished the script on Wednesday. It's a bit different to my usual style, but it works super well for this video. I think it's going to make for an engaging, informative, and entertaining review.

AUDIO RECORDING: Jesus. Christ. This OP killed me. The backing track was so complicated and I couldn't find a way to make it sound good. I eventually wound up going with a fairly simple rendition of the song that I think sounds pretty good, considering. I'm also pretty happy with the audio mixing, since I finally managed to record one of these things without peaking the mic at all. I finished recording the OP and the script on Wednesday.

AUDIO EDITING: Editing didn't take quite as long as recording, but was still more of a #Process than usual. Still, nothing really noteworthy to say about that. When that was done on Thursday, I got right into video editing. The sponsor of this video wanted a preview of the ad read, so I started with that, and they loved it. I think you will, too! But after that, I had to stop. I started feeling completely drained. A little lightheaded. Generally demotivated. It sucked, but I know when to listen to my body and not push too hard. Which is good, because. . .

THE PLAGUE: That's when the fever hit. I have no idea what's wrong with me (we'll find out when I go to the doctor on Tuesday for my regularly-scheduled ADHD consultation). I've got a highly inconsistently body temperature that ranges from 102.7F to 96.5F over the course of a day, accompanied by splitting headaches whenever I stand up or cough. No other symptoms. It's the weirdest shit. I'm guessing covid, since any time anybody says "I have a host of really weird symptoms," it's almost always covid, but who knows? Point is, I was out of commission on Friday and Saturday and only mostly started feeling better today. But even so. . .

ANIME CLUB: I watched all of Vivy: Fluorite Eye's Song for anime club! It wasn't too much of a hassle, since I could do it while high on cough medicine and covered in twenty blankets on the couch. The good news is that it didn't make my illness worse! The bad news is that it was really bad. Can't wait to talk about this one with you guys. It's gonna be a time.

And that's about it for Explanation Point progress this week! Frankly, considering I took two sick days and my birthday off, I'm incredibly proud to have gotten thirty hours of work done. That's around what I want my average work week to look like, anyway, so knowing that I can do that under the absolute worst of circumstances is very encouraging for my future productivity goals. As long as this much work can keep me on a roughly two-video-per-month schedule, I think this is a good place to be.

Do Anime Club streams get made into your videos on a series? I'd love to hear your thoughts on Vivy but I don't do well with the format of a streamed conversation :D i hope your illness is gone :)

Glad to see the video is coming along and I can’t wait to share it with my friend who just finished the series to see what he thinks! Hope you’re getting over that sickness. But Bryant I wasn’t asking myself about the update. I asked myself about where the large automobile is? Wait this is not beautiful house this not my beautiful wife! Oh and happy birthday!
