Patreon Billing Update

Hi, everyone! Popping in with an update that I believe a lot of my patrons will be happy to hear!

As most of you know, you can read ahead for TBATE on my Patreon. I have gotten quite a few requests to change Patreon’s billing system since all my readers get charged on the 1st of the month. While every creator has to abide to their billing system, after repeated talks with the folks over at Patreon, they’ve finally started rolling out a new billing system and my account will be one of the few creator accounts that will now enter a new system:

New patrons are charged when they join, and monthly on that same date, instead of on the 1st of each month. For example, a patron who signs up on April 12 is charged again on May 12. More clarification below:

Previous System:

• Patrons will be charged at signup, and then every 1st of the month. If you sign up on August 31st, you will be charged again on September 1st to maintain the monthly calendar cycle.

New System:

• Nothing changes for my existing patrons. You’ll continue to be billed on the 1st of each month.
• New patrons will be charged at signup, and on that same date each following month. If you sign up on August 15, your membership will renew on September 15—no more accidental double charges!
• Downgrading Tiers: A member who downgrades(and has no other memberships) will remain on their original tier until the next billing cycle and then be charged the lower rate. If you sign up as General on Aug 15, then downgrade to Officer on Aug 26, you will be a General until Sep 15, when your Patreon will update to reflect your Officer status.
• Upgrading Tiers: A member who upgrades(and has no other memberships) will get their upgrade date as their new payment date. If you sign up as General on Aug 15, then upgrade to Lance on Aug 26 (and thus pay the difference), your new billing date is the 26th.

I saw a lot of your concerns and did my best to warn patrons of the previous billing system and provide refunds as much as possible but I knew it wasn’t a sustainable way to move forward. Now, I’m proud to announce that Patreon has helped me implement this new billing system moving forward. I hope to continue working with Patreon to make your experience better and better.
