"Gloompuke"

three floating islands filled with magic and teeth and friendship

hello again little birds!  first of all, once again, THANK YOU SO MUCH TO ALL NEW PATRONS!  the outpouring of support in the past couple of months has been tremendous and it means more to me than you can know.  as promised, here's this month's Phantom_House, specially available to all patrons regardless of tier.  next month's game will once again be available to the $5-and-above tiers, but this one was too special to me not to share with everyone.

i can't tell you how much fun i had making this game!  styled in the manner of early 3D CRPGs such as Daggerfall and Might & Magic VI, it's a bit of a departure from my usual style, but i think that's a good thing-- a change of pace always lifts my spirits, and i learned all manner of new things in making this one.  i had a ton of fun working with Dialogue System, an extension i picked up months ago but never touched, and i've even started teaching myself to code!  that's right, this one's not nearly reliant on PlayMaker as most of my other stuff-- most of the scripts are coded from scratch!  here are some fun things you can expect:

-Certain characters (Mildred and Vivian) say different things depending on the day of the week!

-Different skyboxes depending on whether it's night or day in meatspace!

-25% chance of rain showers!

-A secret, hidden artifact!

-Bark at a man who has the head of a dog!

-Ultra DOS-y OPL3 music!  Long Live Sound Blaster 16!

i hope you all enjoy playing around in this little world as much as i loved making it-- there's not a lot to do except poke around and talk to characters, but hopefully it's good for a few smiles or a few laughs.  be sure to read the readme for controls and let me know if there are any technical issues!  and if you enjoy it (or any of my other monthly games) please recommend my Patreon to anyone you think would enjoy it too!

that's all for now!  thanks again little birds, and keep well~

mama crow loves you <3

The soundtrack on this is great and I left the healing water room up on my monitor for a bit while I worked today and it brought me great solace. Long live Gloompuke!

I revisited this gem with some friends recently and I still feel the same. Gloompuke is so charming, it's extremely comfortable to return to. Also, I finally figured out the door. Well played! I won't spoil, but anyone still stuck: make sure you REALLY have done everything you can.

I just want it to be said that this was an absolutely charming experiment. It's good to depart from usual styles for a lot of reasons, particularly to broaden horizons and increase skill-sets, and I think you absolutely succeeded. It was also just dang adorable and I really didn't want the experience to end. I'm not expecting any updates to Gloompuke in particular but I'm very much looking forward to the possibility of quirky things like this in the future alongside your trademark styles.
