To All Prospective New Patrons:

Hello, little birds!

First of all, thank you so much for your interest in my work!  It means a great deal to me that you should find yourself here-- to have even made it this far implies a level of support, or at least curiosity, for which I am very grateful.

The purpose of this post is to shed light on a change of policy that is new to Patreon, and which affects my personal Patreon page.  If you were to attempt to become a patron of mine from this day forward, you would notice that you are prompted to pay for your first month up-front, where previously you would only be charged at the beginning of the next billing cycle.  The reason I have opted in to this policy change is that, sadly, the old method meant that it was possible for someone to pledge falsely, download all of my Patreon-exclusive work, and then withdraw their pledge before payment was rendered.  I hate to believe that there are people who would do this, and to my knowledge I have not personally experienced such a problem (though it would be very hard to tell if I had unless it were in tremendous numbers).  All of my patrons thus far have been incredibly generous, kind, loyal, supportive, and honest, and I have every confidence that you, reading this now, are all of these as well.  This is simply a small preemptive step towards financial protection in the future.  The exploitation of the previous system would be unfair to me, and it would be unfair to the honest and generous little birds who provide their patronage each month in good conscience.

I understand the inconvenience of having payment demanded on a service that has historically scheduled payments for the future, and I'm sincerely sorry for acting defensively.  That said however, I will tell you this much: for your upfront payment of $5 you gain immediate access to at least a year's worth of monthly Patreon-exclusive experimental dreamware, as well as music, writing, post-mortems, and other goodies accessible to no-one else.  You would be entirely within your rights to pay five dollars, download everything, and abscond.  Your continued patronage buys you a front-row seat to each month's new strangeness, and at the same time allows me to keep part-time work to a minimum as I continue to do my best to sharpen my knives and file my teeth in an effort to bring you better, deeper, darker, sharper, stranger, wilder, and more beautiful worlds to fall into.  For $3 a month you will have a guaranteed 30-day window to freely download any game that I release publicly with a price tag (and, without giving anything away, there are some ideas on the drawing board).  Even at $1 or $2 you gain access to numerous downloadable extras and spontaneous experiments that are available to no-one outside of this site.  I would understand if you balked at an upfront charge, but my hope and my belief is that you will not be disappointed should you take the chance.
