Just hit the first big milestone for the next video! Every component for the EFI side of this project is actually in place and it's absolutely crazy how much simpler the new setup is
And without all of the spaghetti of the L-Jetronic system, the engine looks so much smaller
90% of the old setup was valves and tubes solely to bypass air into the intake for various reasons. Having this electronic throttle body eliminates the need for literally all of them.
And to control that throttle body, I have a pedal from a Nissan 350Z! I'm on the 6th iteration of the adapter needed to mount it, and I'm still not happy with the placement 😅
To install modern EV14 style injectors, I bought a new fuel rail and injector adapters from a company called ProTunerz. Very convenient that a product like this already exists
Now, I didn't have to remove and block off the the EGR system (Exhaust Gas Re-circulation), but it was ugly... and also it'll help out with something later in the project I swear
The old system actually had a 7th fuel injector right at the start of the manifold. This is the "cold start injector" which only squirted fuel on startup. Another antiquated piece of equipment, so block-off plate it is!
All in all, everything is looking super clean! Now I just need to get the final parts machined out of aluminum, then it's on to figuring out the entire ignition system, then sensors, then wiring, then re-installation, then tuning... oh man there's still so much
More updates to come!
