Delayed Input 908 Post-Show Assessment
Added 2023-03-05 22:38:37 +0000 UTCI think these outtakes might be presenting the actual rawest, sincerest version of myself available on the internet.
Anyway, this was a weird episode. I'll walk you through my dumb train of thought--I've been thinking for weeks now about a script for why I don't care to finish Fire Emblem Engage. Why this story is so bad, why these characters don't matter, and why digivolving your units is the most important aspect of player investment in a strategy game. That's a whole episode right there, we can all envision it.
But then, if you look over this whole season, I really have been making a lot of videos about Not Liking Things. I scrapped that whole idea in search of a little more positivity.
Then, really, the whole reason I made this episode was that I made myself laugh when I thought of,
"Top 5 Things I Need from Elden Ring's DLC? Number 1: Absolutely Fucking Nothing."
So it's kind of just a whole video made to make that one point work. Feels almost like sloppy satire of someone else's video that doesn't exist, but then points 2 through 5 are still genuine opinions/things I wanted to talk about this week. (On Number 4 I changed the title to "5 Things I Need for Elden Ring's DLC" just to give me an excuse to talk about Destiny 2 and hard drive space for a second. I made the text of "for" a little grey so someone who did notice the change wouldn't think I'm trying to trick them, but that they're now in on this. It's like in a video game when you go to a spot where there should be a secret collectible, and there isn't one, but there is like, a piece of cheese on a stool. Just a little something.) In the end, I wouldn't say it's much more positive than the Fire Emblem ep would have been. Fun video to make though, deceptively tricky edit.
QUESTIONS FROM YOU!
I beat Malenia without getting hit last year. Are you proud of me?
Actually yes.
Number 5 sounds like you went with the Frenzied Flame ending. True or false?
I got a few endings to get the platinum, but Frenzied Flame was my first and personally canonical ending. True.
When you said "update complete" twice at the end, was that you trying different takes - but then you realized how hilarious the range of facial expressions were from one to the next, so you included both?
I was actually trying a few things in the edit with music and zooms and freeze frames to punctuate that line, and it just wasn't working out. Then I was looking for a different take, and yeah I realized watching someone mentally work out what smugness should look like is actually the funniest part.
What is the origin of the Patch Notes theme?
That's from Epidemic, I think I was looking in the 90s Rock category, imagining a sweet guitar riff, but this track seemed specifically funny in a way I can't describe.
to what extent, if any, do you think of Delayed Input Kyle as a character/persona you're playing into (as opposed to Stream Kyle and Regular Life Kyle)?
I really try not to present myself as a good, likable person, but more like a gross, sneezing gremlin who is honest about his problems. I think this series has become more personal than I originally planned, but really when I'm most myself I think that makes the strongest material, like a whole episode about why I want a VR headset I don't really want. So each of these Kyles is pretty much Me, just doing different jobs.
Love how Kyle channels Don for a second there when he’s burning the franchise.
I think the Don impression has somehow morphed into a major aspect of my identity.
As I'm from the UK, I've noticed how British your sense of humour is. I'm curious to know what you found funny growing up and whether your humour has come from watching any British comedy?
So what's weird is most British comedy I was exposed to growing up was loud and ironic, things like a man smashing a dead bird on a counter and screaming about it. I'd say much later in life I've learned to appreciate more subtle, sincere, biting stuff. It's funny to hear that my sense of humor appears British though, I think my perspective looks like "guy who eats a lot of McDonald's."
Are you like Zangief, Kyle? Would you like us to look at your body, to ogle and worship it?
Nope.
And that's it for today/season 9! It's kind of a neat one in hindsight--lots of events happening, the Suicide Squad leak and eventual payoff, the opportunities created by the anticipated trailers list--feels like a lot of "of the moment" eps, absolutely nothing evergreen about them. If I have a major disappointment it's that nothing really tipped into the Very Weird territory. This season was fairly straight-laced and could have used a little more bonkers flavor. That's the thing my idols of British comedy have taught me--you have to be willing to take chances in your pursuit of a funny joke. See you in two weeks for the In-Betweener!
