Delayed Input 906 Post-Show Assessment
Added 2023-02-19 22:43:12 +0000 UTCThis was a weird episode. As you can see in the clip above, I somehow got the price of PS VR2 very wrong--worse than the final edit suggests, it's even wrong in the script. Later when I was in bed I figured that instead of putting the correct numbers over my mouth every time I had it wrong, I should have just paused the video and had Kyle the Editor do a little explanation to set things straight, but that's the kind of thing I don't generally think about until after the episode is out. I think it botches that whole part of the video but in the end I don't think anyone cared that much.
This script really took a while to take shape. At one point it was like "watch me do it, I'm gonna do it, I'm gonna order a PS VR2," but that was so strangely self-serving, and when I actually stopped to wonder why I want to buy more VR in the first place a theme started forming. I had been thinking about those Mario 3 levels all week too.
The bonus bit being a long, improvised ramble was sort of locked-in before recording. I had initially scripted out to have a conclusion to Mario 3's 38 levels--going through both the process of adding money to the Wii U eshop and upping my subscription to Nintendo Switch Online, and then playing some levels?
First that's basically an entire episode itself, and I think it ties into something I've liking to do with Delayed Input where there's some excitement behind "I'm doing this thing right now." However, I don't know if "I'm buying this old game right now" is actually that entertaining or fun. So I glanced over the script again, thinking "okay what else could I elaborate on?" and I saw it, I knew for sure some absolutely dumb nonsense would come out if I just kept going with Dak Prescott at Chipotle. Sometimes it's easy.
QUESTIONS FROM YOU!
Why don't you buy a Steam Deck instead?
Honestly it doesn't seem that special.
What's a competition you got first place in?
I've spent most of my life losing in competitions. I won a stand-up competition one time in my freshman year in college; the prize was a paid performance at the Rochester Institute of Technology and I was very proud. I figured I'd just keep winning those but I never did again.
On a scale of 1 to Donkey in a Non Shrek Swamp, how likely are you to buy this thing?
I think even after this video where I talk myself out of it, there's still like a 65% chance I'll buy a PS VR2.
As a knitter, I have to ask. Did your mom make this week's hat?
Unfortunately this one was one from my sister's house, the tag says Urban Pipeline.
Did you know you were making a Shrek joke before you made it?
No. You can you tell when I blurt out "swamp" I immediately regretted it.
Are there any classic games you would want to see more content for in the style of the e-Reader levels?
That's a really fun question. It's like if you could add DLC to any old game, which would it be? I guess it would be fun to add levels to a game franchise that had no future, like Blasto or Glover. Or how about more levels of the Simpsons arcade game, not with newer actual Simpsons references but continuing further with the weird Konami take on that world.
And that's it for today. I was reminded this week that it's been 10 years since my first video on GameTrailers, Dos and Don'ts for the PlayStation Meeting. Honestly that really held up my thought process, trapped in a circle of: Should I do something special? Like a tribute to myself? What do I have to say about the last 10 years?? Am I good at this yet???
So instead I just pretended like I was unaware of any anniversary and it worked out. Obviously we all know I'm about to remark on how unfortunate it is that it's been 10 years and I haven't managed to make one funny joke. But studies are showing that people are living longer than ever, so I'm really not that far behind. Here's to next week!
