Delayed Input 1005 Post-Show Assessment

Obviously it would have been fun if Mucho suddenly appeared on my lap in the final video, but I was concerned it would look like I put him there on purpose to try to look cute.

Anyway, this was a weird episode. Even though the Phil Spencer interview wasn't up until Thursday, the script came together really fast. I was watching the Xcast and just five minutes in I was like, "Ferb, I know what this week's episode is about." What's funny is that the interview got picked up all over YouTube/gaming sites, so it wasn't at all like I alone noticed some pretty crazy stuff being said. But that also means it was the talk of the town; turns out it would have been weird if I didn't discuss it.

And yeah a bit of the work I put into last week's ep still helped a lot this week. I actually had written down Xbox Will Never Win as a theme, but at the time I was imagining it more like the title reveal of Love Actually when you see people getting greeted at the airport and the narrator says "Love Actually Is Everywhere." Imagine instead he says "Xbox Will Never Win." That's just good stuff.

Also funny note that while this video popped a bit, the biggest increased metric is comments. The old console wars are alive but they've evolved in a strange way where I think nobody's mad anymore? We all just have takes and we say them semi-respectfully? Just a surprisingly non-toxic inflated comments section this week.

QUESTIONS FROM YOU!

If you were in Phil's shoes, where would you want your public persona to fall on this line between political abstraction and the Nickleback levels of crap he's taking in this XCast interview?
I think I'd be a lot like Phil in that I'd play different people to different audiences. He said a lot of things there he definitely would not have said on CNBC. What's very funny though is that last question, the one where he really goes off into how he will always be getting outconsoled, the setup was simply: Will Xbox owners be left behind the PC owners?
That was a tee up. That's such an easy question to answer, "Hell no, brothers. Xbox owners are about to have the best year of their lives. Where do you think I play my games??"
So while I would still be different people on different platforms, if I'm on the Xcast, I would be a big, pandering buffoon.

Are there any other Final Bosman gags you're considering bringing back to life?
Honestly there are surprisingly few repeated gags I can remember. We had a question recently on whether I still owned the rights to things I made inside those videos, like Phillip Dollarfield, and I was struggling to think of anything tangible that I could do again. Mostly though I think the Battle of the Bands thing still works as a fun analogy even to a first-time viewer, so it's not just looking at the audience like "remember this bit? Please clap."

ultimate honk timing!
Making fun of that Twisted Metal poster with a honk was actually going to be last week's cold open. I was glad we found a way around to it this week.

I don't have a specific question, but just wanted to say AWESOME JOB!
Just want to say these comments are cool too.

Are you adding a new chain every week? What is the theme of this season's wardrobe?
While the first two could maybe be considered chains, 3 and 4 are definitely necklaces. Honestly honestly, I can reveal here that I was not planning on doing a necklace + neon shirt season from week one, but when I started shopping for other neon shirts I quickly realized there aren't that many options. So yeah I decided from week 2 on it would be same shirt + one new necklace.

And that's it for today. Have to say I'm feeling a lot better now than I was one week ago, and even two or three weeks really. We're hitting full recovery just in time for the hot, hot pre-E3 season of rumors and unrealistic expectations. And there's rumors of a May PlayStation event even. Hoping for that Mortal Kombat 12 reveal soon, that really good Goro joke I wrote is getting a little less funny as time goes on.
