Delayed Input 1003 Post-Show Assessment
Added 2023-04-16 20:08:56 +0000 UTCGot a bit of a doozy for an outtake this week--I figured this ran a little long and kind of flattened the punchiness of my dad's bit, so it had to go. But hey it's not wasted; now it's exclusive content.
Onto our regular business, this was a weird episode. My dad told me "I want you to record me doing a rebuttal to when you called Solitaire a stupid game" and I said "I don't know, there's a State of Play on Thursday, it might not fit in with the episode," and he said, "I'll just come over and if you don't use it that's fine." Obviously I said "Text me first," which gives me room to eventually text back "Hey, I'm good, it's just not gonna work."
Later there's a knock at my door. He didn't text first. Now I actually think this was the best thing that could have happened--it added a weird & funny element to a video that basically me just kind of liking a kind of nice video event and getting a few facts wrong along the way. I think there's some fun in the setup too--to me it's funnier to imagine that he submits these rebuttals via the video mailbag than if I said "Hey my dad wants to say something."
I actually also liked that this episode came in under 10 minutes. That's my dream every week. Hopefully we can keep keeping it tight. Oh and one other thing was keeping up in bed that night (late morning)--when talking about the fence sitters, I didn't mean for the spikes of the fence to go up into the butt, but to poke into the meat of the butt cheeks. To me there's a big difference between the two images, I hope that wasn't misconstrued.
QUESTIONS FROM YOU!
Did you add another chain!?
Yes. But surely it stops here.
Did you write that script for your dad?
I gave him the setup--"I've got something to say to that pinhead host of Delayed Input--Solitaire is not the dumbest game of all time"--and then he went off. There's actually a lot I cut out. If my dad had his way that bit would have gone on for five minutes.
What's your favorite film from before the '70s?
My mom made me watch Rosemary's Baby one time. Not sure why but it's standing out to me right now.
When you were making things for GT and later EZA, did you own the characters you invented, or did they belong to the company? Do you own box peek?
So technically anything I created at GameTrailers belongs to IGN, but I'm not sure they would notice or care. Easy Allies stuff belongs to Easy Allies, though obviously that's looser given our relationship.
Box Peek I do explicitly own, however. This is just because when we were signing some LLC paperwork, Isla got a little addendum that said anything created for Easy Update belongs to her, and I was jealous and wanted one of those too. I don't really have any future plans for Box Peek, but it is nice to know Damiani can't start cutting up shapes and making a season 3 without my approval.
Have you ever partially wanted a season of Delayed Input to extend because you had too many good articles of clothing for the theme of that season?
Skeleton Shirt Season became a part of my personality.
What are your general thoughts on the Super Mario Bros. Movie?
I haven't seen it yet! I definitely intend to.
So the backdrop this season…is that a non-slip mat you put under a carpet or maybe a furniture protection blanket you get with a U-Haul rental?
It's the second one precisely, the other side even has U-Haul branding.
How is Papa Bosman so good in this
His first take was almost too kind, I said "Be more upset about this" and I think the genuine Solitaire fanboy came out. I also told him not to be afraid to swear, but he refused that note. Fortunately, that birthed "Let's see how stupid you are, stupid boy."
And that's it for today. I was really buying into one guy on Twitter saying that Mortal Kombat 12 was going to be revealed last week. That's such an obvious thing to make a great episode about. But now we all know, for sure, that it's happening this week. This is great for me because I have a funny joke I want to tell about Goro's clothes.
