Delayed Input 808 Post-Show Assessment

This was a weird episode. But it was almost weirder. I almost wanted to frame the whole thing around this Goofy shirt. Initially I thought it's really weird he's squatting like that. Goofy never naturally just squats that much. But then I figured--if he's standing, it's going to take up more shirt space. So squatting Goofy is the most efficient use of shirt space because it gives us more of what we actually want, which is his face and arms. Then I started to think about Fall Guys and the other lanky video game characters with long arms and short little legs. Emphasis on the important stuff. Some limbs are just less important. Like you don't need to see my legs in a youtube video but you would feel uncomfortable if my arms weren't in the shot. But then I really started feeling insane.
So I made one last episode about Elden Ring. I kind of figured the audience would be expecting a Game Awardsy video so much that it might seem off to ignore it completely. And yeah I guess it's about the lack of drama when a game is just head and shoulders above its competition, but also my feelings on waning significance, how the details of a great game naturally get lost to time.
I was having a hard time figuring out what the upper-left images should change to throughout the episode, so the slow fade to black and white kinda suited both purposes--it's bright and exciting at the beginning of the video and feels historical by the end. It's actually a really nice gradual effect, nice job Adobe Premiere, but there are times when you've been looking at video clips for so long that we come back and it's obviously faded.
Overall I think this was a pretty fun 8 eps. I adopted a few changes from the laid-back low-key season, and then I think overall this one was a bit sillier. The highlight for me is probably the Marvel Snap video, from point to presentation to even a nice bonus bit. Mostly I think it succeeds because it had real stakes, which is something I can't expect to replicate every week but also worth keeping in mind going forward. I also liked that we had a couple of mini-arcs, like with the creepy guild or following up on deleting the account. I'm tempted to let every joke or running bit die each week so viewers aren't overwhelmed (HONK) but if it's done sparingly it can be pretty fun.
Oh and about the missing credits! It's actually a different issue from the other time this happened, this time it seems to be an inexplicable bug, bad job Adobe Premiere. I did a few more failed exports but the solution that fixed it was cutting the credits out and pasting them back in. I'm sorry I didn't notice their absence before uploading.
QUESTIONS FROM YOU!
Is it fair of me to think that the shots in the Jedi Survivor trailer with the character floating in a tube are also dorky?
Yeah that's fair. I realized when I thought "is this too negative?" while writing the script that simply calling them "dorky trailers" implies they're not necessarily bad and also that your criticisms can be as pointless as you want.
How do you feel about 2000s-era "lol so random" humor? Does it have a place in today's climate?
I've never had a taste for it. It seems like none of that stuff stayed funny.
What do you think of pantsuits being next season's fashion?
If we want to do it right that would triple my production budget, but it's worth considering.
What are you thinking about doing with DI in the new year? Any peeks behind yonder curtain?
Obviously I don't plan too far ahead. One thing I really like and want to do more of are little musical jokes. Zooming in on Bandai Namco's financial report while celebratory dance music plays is really funny to me.
Also what's your most anticipated game of 2023?
Spider-Man 2 baby, you gotta believe
What's your favorite holiday-related food?
Does corned beef hash count? If not, cookies.
How do you feel about Goofy having bones in his ears?
As you can see above, it's simply a costume Goofy put together and he's just being silly here. Cut him some slack for once, please.
And that's it for today. As stated in the video this week, I'm not sure when our in-betweener will go up, but I have some kinda fun ideas for it already. As for Season 9, I still have to sort out my costume but I do actually have the backdrop ready to go. (Since it arrived two weeks late into this season) Obviously I'll be spending a lot of the next weeks with family, but also I think I'm going to try to learn how to write a funny joke. I'm thinkin it's time to lean into 2000s-era lol so random humor.
